News at Home: Sick men are a pain!
My first week back to work was mostly okay. My kids behavior has been pretty good and I did really well sticking to my plans to leave work by 4:15 on Monday, 4:30 on Tuesday, 5 on Wednesday and 6 on Thursday. I also setup for coding club to only be on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month, thereby freeing up two to three Thursdays a month in contrast to last semester. I’m putting myself first, not working too late just to get all the unrealistic expectations completed. I didn’t get everything done, but I got what had to be done finished.
And I probably would have gotten more done if my husband hadn’t gotten sick. He is a real true man child when he gets sick. I got home Thursday night and he was lying on the couch with a stomach ache and a 103 fever. So I called the nurse hotline for my insurance and described his symptoms. They advised that if he still had a fever over 101 in the morning he should go to the doctor. And since he’s basically incapable of going to the doctor by himself, I put in for a sub on Friday and notified my team and AP that I might be out the next day. The next morning Kiko still had a high fever, so at 4:30 a.m. I sat down for 2 hours to write up sub plans so I could stay home. Then Kiko basically argued with me about going to the doctor until I agreed to go to the employee clinic instead – where he could get checked for the flu. They confirmed he did not have the flu – yay! – but advised he should go to a doctor because of the fever and stomach pain he was experiencing. They were able to confirm it wasn’t like he needed surgery immediately but that was all they could do at the clinic.
Well, guess who REFUSED to go to the doctor? yep, my husband! Instead, he wanted IHOP because he was hungry and ate eggs, sausage, pancakes, and coffee. Yeah, exactly what you should eat when your stomach hurts. But he didn’t care, he was hungry. So we go home and he complains of stomach pain while trying various ridiculous home remedies (i.e., rubbing olive oil on his stomach) for hours. Around 3:30 he suggests that maybe he needs to go to the doctor because the home remedies aren’t working. REALLY?! 3:30 on a Friday that I took off work so that we could take of everything, including any necessary tests if they were required. But when he finally grows up and agrees, it’s too late. And he worries that it’s something serious and complains about the pain until I finally go to be at midnight with the plan that if he feels the same or worse in the morning we’d go to urgent care.
Long story slightly less long, he’s feeling mostly better, fever is gone and his stomach pain is much less. Although he did JUST let me know that “the pain’s not gone. Don’t think it doesn’t still hurt.” OMG! What a baby!! I love him but since he refused to use the time appropriately, my sympathy is low and since his fever and pain is mostly gone, I’m also not near as worried.
So my stress this week was all from my husband and I really enjoyed a day away yesterday – I went to the gym, had a gym work meeting, and hung out with my brother. Kiko did call me at one point yesterday complaining of pain and hinting heavily that even though he was feeling a bit better he would like me to come home and take him to urgent care. I suggested that we wait until today and he basically agreed, until I came home and he was in a foul mood about how no one cared he was sick. UGH! again I say, #manchild.
I am just venting though, as I was really worried about him and hate to have him sick. I just wish he could handle it more like an adult (or a woman lol). Hopefully he’ll feel even better tomorrow and this whole thing will be basically over.

I’m very happy with the way I was able to blog last week and I’m doing okay with it this week as well – Sunday is my day to do some blogging and I”m seem to be right on track 🙂 So look for me to be visiting some today.
COYER is going strong, and I still have no idea how I’m doing. I think I’m just not going to worry about it this time and next COYER I’ll setup a shelf on Goodreads to track.
Task it Tuesday continues this week over at Because Challenges. Join us if you have a to-do list to work on (and who doesn’t?) 🙂 You’ll see my to-do list and progress from last week as well.

I’m sorry your husband was sick and gave you extra stress. My husband is quite the same. He avoids doctors and dentists like the plague. Luckily his colds have been pretty minor this year, though he did get a 24 hour bug that he mostly slept through. I hope this week is going better for you.
OH Berls! My GF was just complaining about her husband and his inability to deal with a cold. The Man Cold… it’s worse than having a sick kid. But I do hope he’s okay!
Good job putting yourself first, but still being a wonderful teacher. Keep it up! You can do it. xoxo
oh man! You were doing great with following your plan and then bam! Yeah and I would not put up with that, I’d be taking him to the doctor pronto if I took off work. I wouldn’t budge on that one. I can be bossy if it’s important. I’m hoping everyone feels well and this week is smooth sailing. Anne – Books of My Heart
Omigosh! You have me laughing so hard I’m almost crying. I know EXACTLY what you dealt with with Kiko being sick. I have a similar #manchild in my house. I dread him ever getting sick. LOL I’m happy he’s mostly feeling better. And I’m proud of you for putting YOU first, my dear. Keep it up! Happy Monday and I hope this week is off to a good start! {{{big hugs}}}
Yay for a good week other than the sick husband. Mine is actually pretty good when he’s sick – especially if he’s really bad because he’ll just go to bed and stay there. If he’s just not feeling well he won’t say anything and will be getting everything done like normal but I’ll realize he’s being really quite and when he does talk it’s really clipped because he’s putting all his energy into acting like normal. He hates admitting that he’s sick! The coding club sounds really fun. They have one at my son’s school but it interfered with tennis so he wasn’t able to take part this year. Hopefully next year will work better. Have a great week!
I tried not to laugh because I know how scared you must have been over the high fever and the stomach pain especially when he wouldn’t go and get it checked out. He was probably scared that a doctor would tell him it was something really bad. But, the pity party while you were gone is funny. I’ll bet steam was coming from your ears.
Glad your work week went well with the new schedule you set and you felt good about what you got done on the blog.
Have a good rest of the week, Berls!
Oh my gosh, I’m laughing at the sick husband drama even though I know it’s not funny. The fact that he refused to go to the doctor and then hours later decides he should go? Gah!!! If you refuse to go to the doctor, my sympathy lessens because I assume you must not feel too badly! LOL Nice that you had a day away to de-stress!
Ha ha, men are the worse when it comes to being sick! Yet when you are sick you are suppose to clean house, cook, etc. I am glad that it wasn’t anything serious and that it has gotten better. Even though it might have stressed you some at least you got a day away from school stress. : ) Hope this week is a good one!

Oh the man flu is the worst!!!! They are totally incapable of dealing with even the tiniest of infections. Hopefully he is back to normal this week.
Men! *snorts and rolls eyes* I’m sorry he was sick, but omg, tell him I said to stop whining! Go to the Dollar Tree and get him some party hats for his pity party. lol
I hope this week proves to be as stress-free in the areas it was this week and stress-free hubby-wise. lol
I told Scot a million times he isn’t allowed to complain until after he goes to the doctor, otherwise I don’t care. 🙂
I hope he is feeling better now.
I did some blogging but just ran out of time this weekend, so far the kids have had a half day on Friday (my blog day) and I can’t seem to get anything done when they are home. I can’t leave either or they call me. Hoping to get a few things done but I might have to move some stuff around for myself. My family is WAY too needy.
Hope you have an awesome week! Happy Reading! xx
OMG Kiko sounds like Mr. Lex! He refused for 10 days to go see a doctor – and when he finally did, he was diagnosed with a really bad case of bronchitis. Of course, with medicine, he’s so much better now, I just wish he hadn’t waited that long!
I’m glad you took the day off to take care of him on Friday, because you could take care of yourself, too!
Miss you so much, Berls! {{{BIG HUGS}}}
