News at Home
I didn’t have the time I thought I would this week and yesterday I got home super late, so throwing together a quick post this morning to basically say hi and give a quick update.
I was home this week, which was a nice change from the week prior. We had an update about expectations for returning to work in May and they’re still so wishy-washy it’s hard to know what to expect. I know that’s partly because we don’t know what to expect with how the virus will proceed over the next month, but I’m starting to feel really hopeful. They opened up vaccines to childcare / educators FINALLY a couple weeks ago and this week to everyone over 50. Most people in my circle have had at least 1 shot now – Kiko actually got the 2nd shot Thursday – and those who haven’t are on the list.
Anyway, I don’t know what to expect in May, but I do know they plan to ramp up the amount of time we’re expected on-site. And for me, the in-between is way too hard. Needing childcare for an entire week, but then not at all the next 2 weeks is too all over the place. It’s stressful to try and coordinate all the time. So I put Dante on the wait list for his old daycare to start May 3 and they think they’ll have space for him. As much as I love being home with him – I think him going back will be good for all of us. I can do 1 job all day instead of 2. He can socialize. My husband’s life will continue to be unchanged lol (the guys seem to always get the easy end don’t they). Although I may ask him to help with pickup so I can go in later and Dante can have shorter days. LIke 8:30 to 5:30. Instead of 7:30 to 5:30. Just 1 hour but still. We bought another car seat so we’d have one for Kiko’s truck now too, just in case. (We used to have two bases for his newborn car seat, but when we upgraded we only bought 1, because it was in the middle of this pandemic).
Besides work, this week I spent several days trying to get Kiko an appointment at the Consulate to renew his passport and they have one of the worst websites ever (made harder by the fact I had to do everything in Spanish). Finally on Wednesday after 2 hours of messing around, answering questions and being told our info didn’t match their system, we got an appointment for April 5th. He’s been calling for 2 months straight and couldn’t get one. Now his family and coworkers are asking if I can help them, because they can’t figure out the website and have been having the same problem with calling. I feel like I should charge.
Yesterday we went to see Franky – 1 hour drive – and had a really great time. They live out in the country on an acre of land, so Dante got to run around and play. He got all muddy and soaked – all kids should have days like this! – but because he NEVER gets dirty and I ALWAYS end up having to put away the extra clothes I packed, I didn’t pack any extras this time. So he got to run around in Franky’s girlfriend’s shirt, tied with a hair tie so he wouldn’t trip on it. I think every kid should have a running around in clothes too big for them moment too lol.
Oh – and punctuating this whole week – I spent pretty much every evening trying to find my Kindle (took apart the couch and bed, moved furniture, searched through toy chest, etc). It disappeared sometime last week and I started to worry Dante had thrown it out or something. Right when I gave up and started looking into buying a new one, Kiko found it. Under the dresser where I had looked at least 3 times.

Challenge update
This week I finished:
I’m participating in 4 reading challenges this year. Here’s how I’m doing:
Backlist Reader hosted by Lark @ Bookwyrms Hoard: 15 books (2 added this week)
Library Love hosted by Books of My Heart & Angel’s Guilty Pleasures: 1 book
New Release hosted by (un)Conventional Bookworms: 0
COYER (Spring) hosted by Because Reading: 7 books (1 added this week)
FitReaders (hosted by Jen @ That’s What I’m Talking About & Felicia The Geeky Blogger)
I started a bariatric reset diet this week and it was tough, but I made it to Friday night without any challenges. It accomplished my main goals – I reset my portions, I got off added sugar, fixed my mindset (I hope), and got my weight back down to where I was at the start of the year. I feel better and have some good plans moving forward. I think portion size and added sugar are going to be my keys to success moving forward.
I also got in 4 workouts and 4 walks this week, so okay on the workout front.

I’m trying to be more responsible about keeping track of the books I acquire, so I’m going to start sharing them again. If I share them here, surely I’ll remember to add them to Goodreads, right?
I actually got more from Tantor but had major trouble downloading and lost about 5 downloads. I’m hoping they can resend them… the way their system works once you start downloading they count them as received. We’ll see.
I’m really glad you found your Kindle! I think daycare full time instead of 1 week on, two weeks off would be great for all of you! Not to mention it might confuse Dante. Poor kiddo’s gonna have a crash course back to “normal” life soon.
Hopefully Tantor can get you fixed again!
Yes, hopefully your schedule will settle so you can get child care and work squared away. Kids should definitely have dirty play and the chance to run around in long shirts. Yay for finding your Kindle and making it through your reset diet. I’ve had to have new codes sent from Tantor and Hope was great about it so you should be okay.
Nice job getting to two books this week.
Have a good week, Berls!
Well it sounds like you made progress on things even though it was hard work. Tantor is always great to send a new code if you have a problem. I had some Internet issues for awhile and had to get new ones a few times. So glad you found the Kindle and got the reset started. I need to cut back sugar but I am frustrated with the hip thing so I eat some junk.

Glad it was a quieter week for you and I hope childcare works out for May. I’ve had issues downloading from Tantor in the past and they always send me new codes. I hope you can get those fixed. Great work on fitness goals!!! Here’s to a wonderful week ahead.
