News at Home

This past week was a blur. Mainly, I spent the week all in my feelings. I will be back in the office full-time starting tomorrow and that means Dante is going back to daycare. After a year at home with me. And basically, I’m not okay. My head KNOWS it’s going to be good for him, that he needs it. HELL, I need the chance to do one job all day instead of two. But I’m going to miss him. And worry about him. I have a slew of things of stressing about – from will he eat and will he nap, to what if they don’t love him and what if he cries all day and thinks I abandoned him? Why was this so much easier when he was 3 months old? I’m prepared for it to be difficult for him at first, but it’s going to be agony for me if he’s crying and clinging to me when I drop him off.

Thankfully my boss is super understanding and flexible so we’re going to start off with shorter days – I’ll drop him off at regular time (so he can begin to get used to his day) but I’m going to pick him up earlier and finish my workday from home this first week. Unless he does amazing and it makes sense to let him stay longer. I’ve been trying to adjust him to his new schedule and as far as eating times go, he’s done great. But in terms of nap… it’s been pretty much a fail. He not only hasn’t napped earlier, he just flat out hasn’t napped. And I’m very anxious about it.

So… I think my heart knew I needed a distraction and I became obsessed with finding a way to play the Sims 4 this week. Not an easy task when your desktop is ancient and, besides that, all you have is a Chrome Book. I tried the Sims games on my phone and yeah, not the same. So I tried cleaning up my computer – removing a bunch of programs so it would run better – and then I downloaded the game. Took all night, and the next morning it wouldn’t play. So I started looking into new computer options. And at one point I had a roughly $750 (with taxes) laptop in my Amazon cart. But I kept thinking, am I really going to buy a computer just to play the Sims? So then I decided I would give my desktop a factory reboot. That took hours. Once that was done … and at some point we crossed over into another day… I downloaded Origin and it couldn’t install. I was THIS CLOSE to buying that laptop, but I decided to look up the error I was getting and followed some YouTube step by step to fix it  and several hours later… I was playing the Sims! And since I saved $700 I decided buying 1 expansion (beyond he 1 I already owned from when I played before) was justified! I’m sure I’ll be buying more sometime. But I’ve gone back down that worm hole time suck and it’s honestly been the only thing to fully distract me from my anxiety.

Last week on Because Reading

CFitReaders (hosted by Jen @ That’s What I’m Talking About & Felicia The Geeky Blogger).

My big goal for 2021 is to get down to my goal weight. It means losing 70 pounds this year.. I continue to really struggle with the scale and making good, healthy food choices. I did, however, make it to the gym 4 days this week and I continue to feel so great being back.

Because of going back to the office and Dante’s daycare next week, I’ll b skipping the gym next week. But I have FANTASTIC eating plans. So if meal prep goes as planned today, I’ll be doing ok next week.

Weight gain/loss: +2.2 pounds for year

How was your week? What are you Reading?

  1. Jen

Good luck this coming week… I’m sending lots of hugs. I’m glad your boss is letting you take shorter days to help with the transition. And yea for fixing your computer!!

  2. I agree with Michelle, at some point you will need a new laptop. But I’m glad you could distract yourself and fix things for now. It will be an adjustment but it will be ok. Dante will enjoy new stimulus. Hopefully it will b tiring enough to allow him some naps. And you will get to focus on work, and then on Dante without the multitask as much. I hope the week goes really well.

  3. While I still think you need a new laptop 😉
The Sims 4 has been amazing for my anxiety and I set like 2 hours aside each day if possible to play and sometimes, i will use it as a reward for getting my tasks done and give myself more time to build or play. I love that game and don’t even care if it sucks time I should be doing something else, my mental health IS WAY more important 🙂
