News at Home

Well this week has continued to be a lot. As I mentioned last week, my nephew (Kiko’s brother’s son) was in a fatal car accident on Saturday May 28th. Kiko has been with his family pretty much non-stop this week – which obviously I understand – and that has meant I’ve been trying to do the single mom thing. And Dante’s a great kid, but it’s a lot. Especially with bootcamp – which I finished on yesterday! Yay! – trying to get Dante’s ABA services setup (touring places, phone calls, paper work, etc), and wrapping up things at my current job. I have only 4 days left at my current job – I took Friday June 10th off and then I start my new job on June 13th.

Friday was the funeral, so I took the day off to be with Kiko. His family is very Catholic – so it was quite the experience. Over an hour mass, followed by a procession to the graveyard, where there were more prayers and lots of tears. By time we got to the family-owned restaurant for the after funeral gathering it was 2:30. I had to leave by 2:45 because I had a 3:30 tour at an ABA center. After the tour, I came home to finish my bootcamp work, pick up Dante, and then pick up Kiko. It was so nice to have him home for dinner and the evening one night! We cut Dante’s hair – he fought us more than ever before 🙁 – and it turned out pretty good. I want to clean up the back a little bit tonight before bath I think, though. We cut it much shorter than normal due to the hot weather.

Saturday morning I finished bootcamp and then Kiko was off to be with his family again. Mexican culture has this thing called a novenario – where the family and friends gather for nine days following the burial to pray for the deceased soul to be released from punishment from sin. So he’ll still be going over there until the 12th. It’s a long time to be flying solo with Dante and I’m just really glad that I don’t have bootcamp to keep up with anymore. I took Dante down to the pool this afternoon and we had a blast! It was his first time with his new floaties and the pool was closed except to employee families so it was a really nice time. I spent the rest of the afternoon being pretty lazy with Dante – we did puzzles, I watched Married at First Sight and ordered in Maggianos for dinner. I really haven’t done anything productive for the week ahead and not sure how much I’ll get done today – bare minimum is groceries and laundry. The rest may just be a little less orderly than normal as I try to take care of my emotional health (aka not lose my mind trying to handle ALL THE THINGS).

Blog News

In an effort to take care of everything else going on, I’m really taking a break from the blog. I’m hoping I’ll be ready to come back in a week or two.

How was your week? What are you Reading?

  1. I am so sorry to hear about you nephew Berls. So sad when a young person dies so tragically. Grab those moments to enjoy with Dante to help you deal with the sadness.

Berls… I totally missed the news about your nephew last week, I must have read right over it. I’m so sorry; deepest sympathy to Kiko’s family. How awful. I’m glad you finished boot camp, and while you have a lot going on, that is one less thing. I hope the rest of the week goes smoothly and your last day of work goes well. Sending hugs.

  3. You really do have too many things to do right now. Hang on to those moments of playing in the pool or park with Dante. Those are why you do it all. And you do it all more than most people. I’m so excited for you with the end of bootcamp and the new job! I can’t wait to hear more about it.
