April Davis totally has her life in order. Ha! Not really. Yes, she’s the Calm Mom—a social influencer with a reputation for showing moms how to stay calm and collected through yoga, even when life is going totally off script—but behind the scenes, she’s barely holding it all together. Raising tiny humans alone is exhausting, but that’s just the chewed-up cherry on the melted sundae of her life. Her kids aren’t behaving, her husband left her for his skydiving instructor, and her top knot proves she hasn’t showered in days.
Jack Gibson has one job—to ensure the media conglomerate that has purchased April’s brand makes money from it. Lots and lots of money. To do this, they’re expanding her influence from Instagram and her blog to a podcast and MyTube channel. There’s even talk about a Calm Mom cookbook.
When a video of the “always chill” April goes viral and she’s most definitely not, Jack is pulled in to ensure it doesn’t happen again. Suddenly, the guy with no intention of ever having children is lost in the land of the tooth fairy and toddler tea parties. When sparks fly between Mr. Mogul and the Calm Mom, he’s not the only one out of his depth. Together they’ll have to figure out if keeping it all together really can lead to happily ever after...
My top thoughts:
This series is 3 for 3 for me! I just love the characters and the realism of being a mom trying to juggle a career and all the things your family needs. This book had everything the others have had: great characters, romance, and so much humor!
What I liked/didn’t like:
April May Fall, like the earlier books, gives us a divorced single mom – April – barely holding it all together. April, though, was recently snatched up as an influencer who teaches yoga and is branded as a Calm Mom. But her very recent divorce has left her anything but calm. And it all implodes in a fairly hilarious, but potentially career ending (before it really starts) viral video.
Thankfully, Jack — who represents the company that has put all this money into branding her and happens to be Rachel (from book 1)’s brother — still believes in April and is determined to help her pull herself back together. To do this, he flies across the country and takes up residence in a bed and breakfast across the street form April. And the way to help her is to insert himself into her life, which results in some pretty hilarious interactions. I just loved watching him try to navigate suburban single mom world and winning over the entire family while he was at it.
On top of the growing relationship between Jack, April and her kids, we also have the continued friendships that we’ve seen in the previous books with the other moms. It was great to see the couples we’ve already come to love growing in their relationships/families. And I love seeing solid friendships — great friends are sometimes the thing between me and insanity in this gig called motherhood, and this series really captures that essential bond.
I really enjoyed this quick (I read it in less than 2 days), fun romantic comedy – it, like all the books previous, hit the sweet spot. It’s sweet, flirty, tender, sexy, and hilarious.
Narrator thoughts:
As with the previous books, Petrea Burchard was the perfect fit for this book. She delivers the characters with personality and captures all the moments – from the sweet to the sexy to the hilarious – beautifully. I highly recommend listening and I was able to enjoy at my standard 2x speed.
This was the only one I got to in the series, but I really enjoyed it. I found it relatable, too.
I like the sound of this one and what a cute cover.
Check out the dog holding the bra on the cover, I love that! It sounds like a really lovely story as well! 😀
I think I would love these. I will have to try to read them someday.
