Shelby Nichols needs some time off, but for a mind-reader with ties to the police and the mob, is that even possible? Her kids want the dog she's promised them, the police need her to talk to a counselor, and Uncle Joey has unexpected news that could change her life. Is Shelby up to the task? Let's hope so, because solving a murder might be easier than granting a dying wish.

I love Shelby and am always excited when I get an email from Colleen about another book. I can’t believe we’re already at number 14!!! This was most definitely one of my favorites – most get between 3.5 – 4.5 stars, but this is a 5 star read for me.

So much is happening in this book! Shelby has been away from the police recovering from when she was shot in NY, not to mention the previous run-in with a stalker that she ended up shooting and killing. In her absence, another psychic has tried to move in on her turf. I really enjoyed their conflict and the competing “supernatural?” abilities. It was a fun twist to her work with the police.

Uncle Joey is also thinking about everything that happened in NY and starting to set his affairs in order – which leads to some unexpected twists for Shelby. I wasn’t really sure how I felt about it (neither did Shelby honestly) and I’ll be curious to see if things are really settled in this area.

Then there are the THREE murder investigations Shelby gets pulled into. Each had their own interesting elements. My favorite element was the family’s new dog!! I love when animals are a big part of a story. Shelby’s abilities allow her to communicate with their new dog, which gives him added personality. And one of the investigations got very intense and scary at one point.

So yeah, this book had everything I love about Shelby – fun interactions with most my favorite characters (I miss Billy, Dimples wife!), paranormal/supernatural fun, some intense moments, some funny moments, and solid mysteries. And then you add in the dog and I’m thrilled. Looking forward to more!

    • I love this series. I was seriously shocked to see we were so many books in, they just have flown by for me. I hope you get to read it sometime. On audio – the narration is fun.
