This feature is for short reviews, reviews of books in a series where it might feel repetitive, or (as Michelle suggested) books I was too lazy to write a “real” review for. Today’s books are all from the Witchless in Seattle series that I read back in 2018, reviewed on Goodreads but never managed to review here. I plan on catching up no the latest books in this series soon hopefully, so let’s get caught up here too!
Narration note:
As I allude to in a few of these reviews, I listened to all these books because Hollie Jackson’s narration is fantastic. She really brings the characters to life, complete with the crazy humor and diverse accents that the stories call for. I think I enjoy them all the more because of her narration and would definitely recommend listening to these books.

After a bit of a break from the series it was fun to come back to Stevie’s craziness! It was easy to jump back in and remember what was going on, which was fun. I read this a couple weeks ago and then binged the rest of the published books in the series without writing reviews… ooops. So bear with me on this quick review."It's nice to meet you, Mr…er, stage, screen, and Japanese film star, but party…and thirty-two years, actually almost thirty-three now. And um, stuff…to do… So, talk later. I mean, you and me. M'kay? Gotta go."
Ebenezer Falls, sleepy fishing village or murder central? The game's afoot in Dewitched from USA Today bestselling cozy mystery author Dakota Cassidy as Stevie, the powerless witch (or is she?), her bat familiar Belfry, and resident British ghost spy Winterbottom, hunt for a killer. Book 3 of the Witchless In Seattle Mysteries is a thrilling whodunit, and this time, it's personal!
I, ex-witch Stevie Cartwright, do hereby solemnly swear to avoid future murder-mystery shenanigans, nosiness, tomfoolery, and any further crazy killer inflicted pain to my person, so help me goddess…
Hah! Like I could help myself? But after busting my butt (literally!) on the last murder case in my beloved hometown of Ebenezer Falls, WA, I could use a nice long break. I was determined to take the time to enjoy the company of my bat familiar, Belfry; my British ex-spy ghost, Win; our adorable St. Bernard rescue, Whiskey; and of course our gorgeous home, Mayhem Manor, freshly and lovingly renovated.
Until shazam—a dead man invites himself to our fancy housewarming party! When my mother's husband number five ends up deep-sixed in my parlor, it's not like I can't NOT try to solve this mystery, right? Especially if I ever want Mom to leave so I can get back to my semi-peaceful existence.
But our work is definitely cut out for us this time. With Belfry's rascally bat family visiting and the two hundred or so guests, acrobats, mimes, cooks, catering staff, orchestra members—and a surprise guest who throws me for a loop in the house—suspects sure aren't a problem.
Looks like it's time for another spirit-filled, witchless adventure in Ebenezer Falls!
This cozy mystery has a complete cast of oddball characters from witches to ghosts and bats to psychics. Witchless In Seattle Mysteries is a spin-off of Dakota Cassidy's bestselling paranormal romance series, A Paris, Texas Romance.
I really like the characters, particularly Stevie’s familiar Belfry and spy-ghost friend Win. Her relationship with the police really bothers me though. She makes fun of the detectives and acts like they are incompetent and she’s more equipped to solve cases than they are. I can say, having binged the rest of the series, that this develops a bit and she does seem to grow in respect for the detectives. But in this book, it’s still a problem.
And while I get that Stevie having a mother that is self-involved is part of the back-story, it wasn’t my favorite part of this story. I did, however, enjoy her meeting her dad for the first time. That was interesting and suspicious all in one.
Overall it’s fun and I quickly grabbed the next book.

This was probably one of my favorites so far in the series. First of all, one of the characters that hasn’t had the best relationship with Stevie ends up coming to her for help and I loved the way that begins to change their relationship. There’s also a couple very anxious moments that had me on the edge of my seat in a way other books so far haven’t. And as always with this series I laughed a lot. AND there was one BIG development that has me very excited for where the series could potentially go.Ebenezer Falls, Washington…a sleepy burg or murder central?
The game is afoot...again, as amateur sleuth Stevie Cartwright plunges head first into another murder investigation. With twists, turns, and suspects aplenty, this one will keep you guessing from start to finish.
USA Today bestselling cozy mystery author Dakota Cassidy serves up mayhem and murder in The Old Witcheroo, Book 4 of her bestselling series, Witchless in Seattle Mysteries.
Just when you think you know your one-time International Man of Mystery turned ghostly confidant…
When last we met, dear friends, a man had come calling, claiming to be Crispin Alistair Winterbottom, my dead British ex-spy. A notion I'd find ludicrous, if the handsome imposter didn't, in fact, look exactly like my dead British ex-spy. But there's no time for that mystery when a quiet walk on our private stretch of beach turns up something far more pressing—another tragedy in my beloved small Washington town.
That's right. I, Stevie Cartwright, ex-witch turned amateur sleuth, have stumbled upon another murder. But this time it's closer to home, more personal, a victim who'd touched the hearts of so many in Ebenezer Falls, young and old. In fact, there's only thing more surprising than the victim…
The good man who's become the number one suspect.
Along with my Spy Guy Win, my bat familiar Belfry, our rescue dog Whiskey, and even an unexpected new friend or two, I'm jumping back into my Sherlock shoes to catch the cleverest killer yet!
This cozy mystery has a complete cast of oddball characters from witches to ghosts and bats to psychics. Witchless In Seattle Mysteries is a spin-off of Dakota Cassidy's bestselling paranormal romance series, A Paris, Texas Romance.
Beyond that, mostly I have a lot of the same things to say – great characters, fun mystery, lots of laughter and I am binge reading away 🙂

I know I said the last one was one of my favorites, but this one beats it for sure. First of all, it’s just ridiculous, in the best way. If you love Christmas, like I do, you can relate to Stevie’s excitement over the holiday and all her plans for the town’s decorating competition. And when it gets sabotaged in the most ridiculous ways, I both felt for her and laughed so hard I could cry. Until the murder of course. And even that was kinda ridiculous though. It's Christmas, and I, ex-witch, Stevie Cartwright declare this my favorite time of year. I love the decorations! The food! The Hallmark Channel holiday specials! This year promises to be better than ever because for the first time in a very long time, I'm going to have more than just Cheez Whiz, Triscuits, and the wish to be surrounded by family and friends. My carefully planned holiday bonanza includes all the usual suspects. My bat familiar Belfry, my dog Whiskey, my ever-present ghostly spy friends-dashing Brit Winterbottom, stalwart Russian Arkady, and my parents. However, nothing comes easy for this amateur sleuth, not even a neighborhood decorating contest. You know, the one I've been painstakingly prepping for months? Something goes horribly awry with my Christmas display (think bikini-clad carolers, pink flamingos and real, live turkeys) to start. But the worst? The dead body of the famous Chef Pascal Le June in my nativity scene! It becomes clear someone's trying to ruin my Christmas, and that someone must pay. But when Belfry goes missing, and the danger takes on a paranormal edge, I find I have more to lose than ever before. . .
The mystery element was really good in this one and I liked the way it brought the paranormal more to the forefront. Belfry was absent for most the book which was hard, as he’s a favorite character. I’m loving the addition of Arkady, his butchery of American sayings cracks me up and the narration really breathes life into his great character.

So this one took things to a new level for me. I think because 1- we finally get more of Win’s background and 2- there’s a baby!! y’all I adore baby’s and when a baby comes into a story, especially one needing love and saving like this one, yeah, I’m head over heels. And Stevie’s maternal nature was pretty heartwarming. I loved the mystery and it was fun delving into Win’s past.My name is Crispin Alistair Winterbottom, and I'm a British Spy . . . Or I was until my untimely, dare I say, suspicious demise. Now, I'm a ghost, living my afterlife on what I fondly call Plane Limbo. But I'm determined to return to the land of the living and while I try and figure out exactly how to do that, I spend my days with the ever delightful ex-witch, Stevie Cartwright, the only person in the world who can hear me, and her charming bat familiar, Belfry. We've seen some dark days, Stevie and I. Including, an unexpected family member attempting to steal all my worldly goods, a vengeful warlock, and plenty of murder. Yet, through it all, we've become great friends and adopted several new friends (alive and dead) along the way. So when a surprise shows up on our doorstep and claims to belong to me, our safe, happy world is bloody well turned upside down and threatens, to date, the most important relationship in my life!
At first I didn’t love it because it was told for Win’s point of view and that threw me, but it grew on me and it was nice getting to see his view of the world and get some insight into what he sees and feels since Stevie can’t see him or Arkady.
I do think Stevie is taking his secrets about Maranda way too far though. I just don’t think it’s that big of a deal and she’s acting like it defines the level of trust in their friendship. Annoying. But it was nice to see the confirmation that he cares for her a lot more than she realizes.
Overall, I think this MIGHT be my favorite in the series thus far. And yes, I’m aware I keep saying that.

I’ve been plowing through this series so quickly and been very negligent about writing reviews…. so needless to say this is coming a full week or so after finishing the book :/What happens when an ex-witch/medium, an ex-nun, a demon, and a dead British spy meet? Murder! After a really busy summer, things have settled down for my crew here in Ebenezer Falls. That is, until my favorite Spy-Guy, Win, has a crazy recollection of the night he was murdered. His memory leads us to the new tattoo artist in town who just happens to be an ex-nun named Trixie Lavender. Sister Trixie has a gifted tattoo artist for a sidekick who just happens to be a demon straight from the bowels of Hell . . . A demon who, coincidentally, is accused of murder, that is. You know what that means--Stevie and the gang to the rescue!
What I liked:
- Sometimes I almost forget this series is a paranormal cozy series because the paranormal elements are so light. But this one really brought them to the forefront in a fun way
- the characters continue to be a favorite element and I only wish some of them were going to be sticking around long term
- the narration continues to be really good and I will definitely be listening to future books
What could have been better:
- she doesn’t actually solve the mystery, which she acknowledges too. She just kinda falls into it and trouble (as usual) and I just would have liked to see more detective work
I got the first one as a freebie b/c I liked her older series. I really need to start and now you make me want to switch to audio. Good to know it gets better as it goes.
Sounds like they were pretty good reads for the most part.
There’s just something about witchy books that I love. These are going on my wishlist!
I’m glad they got better for you as you went along. I think Robin has read these and I have some of this author in my freebie tbr.
