#NonReview ~ The Fearless Travelers’ Guide to Wicked Places by Pete Begler

Sadly as gorgeous as the cover is the book just wasn’t working for me. I was struggling so hard to make sense of what was going on. I felt like the explanation of the dream/nightmare world they were going into was very complicated. All the details and what was going on was very confusing and I just even over 100 pages in I was still not 100% sure what was going on or if I actually liked any of the characters. Nell was ok but I didn’t understand her, the characters lacked a lot of build. The brother Speedy was ok but George was mean, I wasn’t sure if his mean attitude was suppose to come across as funny but it didn’t I actually didn’t like him at all. The world was confusing, the characters lacked build and the story seemed sort of all over the place.

I really wanted to like this one, it seemed like it was going to be so interesting but it just didn’t work for me. I wouldn’t say don’t give it a try, honestly it could be just me. 🙂

  1. That’s too bad, I’m such a sucker for a pretty cover, it’s always painful when it doesn’t work out. I’m getting better at DNF’ing and letting them go, but it still feels like a personal failure somehow!

I had my post all ready to go and thought I’d scheduled it because I was going to be at Comicon, and alas, I find it did not post! So, now it is posted! I really enjoyed mine this time, and look forward to more from the author!

  2. Oh I am sorry to hear this one didn’t work for you as it did sound good and the cover is so pretty. It does sound very confusing, if you couldn’t make fully sense of how things worked. And that the characters weren’t fully likeable either. I hope your next read is better!
