News at Home: Break is over!

This past week was kind of a blur. Dante is 2 months old as of Monday! It’s so hard to believe – time is just flying by! Tuesday was a big day. Tuesday morning, Dante rolled over! I was just watching him play on the mat while I did some work – he was doing tummy time and next thing I knew he was rolling over. I put him back on his tummy and he rolled over again. And again. It was pretty great and he smiled so big every time he did it. Then he had his 2 month doctors appointment, complete with shots :(. Y’all that was brutal for me. He was lying there on the table smiling up at me, so happy and then he got two shots (one in each leg) and his face went from smiling to crying and just utter shock. Like he was betrayed, thinking, “how did she let that happen to me?” I had a bottle ready for him and they did it so fast. I was able to pick him up almost instantly and feed him and cuddle him. He cried a minute more at most while having his bottle and quickly finished it and went to sleep. And I know it’s for the best and he won’t even remember it. But man, I think that was the first time he cried because he was genuinely hurting πŸ™

I really don’t know exactly what else we did this week. I’ve been pretty focused on getting myself and Dante into a rhythm that will work when I go back to work next Monday and he starts daycare. So I’m waking up early and getting in my workout and everything. It’s been good that I”m practicing, because I’ve ironed out some kinks. And I think Dante is getting used to it too, because the last 3 days he’s woken up at 6:30 a.m., which is the time I’m waking him up to get ready for daycare. Best part? He’s sleeping from 12am to 6:30 a.m.! That’s a solid 6.5 hours at 2 months y’all! And it works great because I go to bed at 9 p.m. – Kiko takes care of him from 9:30 p.m. to 12 a.m. (basically a bottle feeding and a diaper change and putting him back to sleep most nights, some nights there’s some fussiness to deal with) and then I take over for middle of the night feedings (which we haven’t had more than 1 this week!). I wake up at 5 a.m. and Kiko sleeps until 7:30 a.m. So we’ve got the tag-team thing down and we’re both getting about 7 hours sleep per night with a 2 month old. I call that winning!

Oh and I got to go to book club this week (first time back since Dante was born) and took one class at the gym (also first time back). So it was a good week!

Blog News

Ho-ho-ho readathon wrapped up last week and I didn’t quite make my goals, but I got close! I read 2 books if you take 5 of an audio and half of a print book and put them together to make one whole book lol! My goal had been 3, so pretty close. Point is, I did some Christmas reading and am definitely in the holiday spirit.

For Can You Read a Series in a Month? Challenge, I’m definitely going to make it. I started the last book in my series yesterday (Saturday) and it’s an audio, so I’ll have it finished before the week is out for sure. Yay!

And COYER Kicks off December 1st! Are you ready? If you haven’t, be sure to sign up – it’s all about Blogging friendships this time. Hope you can join us!

  1. Glad to hear this was a good week. That’s awesome he rolled over. That sounds tough with Dante having to get his shots and being in pain, that seems difficult to go through and you can’t explain to him that it’s for the best. Sounds like you have a good rhythm established with both of you getting 7 hours of sleep.

  2. Berls you are killing it!! I’m glad you and your hubby have a system worked out! Thats super awesome. Best of luck with the new job! I can’t wait to hear-I’m thinking about looking for jobs outside of teaching but kind of at a loss as to where to look!

    • Thanks Samantha, I feel good πŸ™‚

This job kind of came to me through a friend and I never would have thought to look for it on my own. It’s at a university (UT Southwestern) and the best part is that it’s still part of the Texas Teachers Retirement System, so I don’t lose my progress towards retirement. So maybe admin jobs at a university would be worth looking into for you? IDK what you want to do. I’m looking for less stress #1, better hours #2, and better pay/benefits #3.

Have a great week (& Thanksgiving)!

  3. He’s growing so fast! Sounds like you had a wonderful week, and you and Dante and Kiko are all doing well. That first shot is rough, but file it under “tough love” — it’s the best thing for your baby long term, even if there’s a little pain now. (But oh, I remember how awful it feels to be the mommy in that situation!)

I hope your first week (and beyond) at your new job are terrific, and that Dante adjusts well to daycare. (And you, too!) Have a lovely Thanksgiving and a great week!

    • I was telling him all about the shot and how it was for his own good the whole time – I think to remind myself my reasons for doing it lol! I feel like we’re getting the hang of having Dante added to our lives *knocks on wood* πŸ™‚

Thank you! Have an amazing Thanksgiving as well!

  4. Yay for rolling over! I remember my not so little one was so excited when he was able to do that and he started sleeping better too which was amazing! Your schedule sounds solid and good luck in the morning! Oh the shot story! I have a very similar one and it still haunts me to this day and he’s almost 10! I can still remember the look of complete betrayal. It’s a tough one though thankfully they don’t remember. Good luck this week!

    • Thank you Katherine!

It’s heartbreaking isn’t it? I mean, I know the shots are for his own good, but the look on his face! Okay, so you’re like the 3rd person to tell me that once they start rolling over they sleep better and I’m trying to figure out… why? What does it have to do with sleeping? Obviously there’s something, but I’m not seeing it lol. But I’d love for him to sleep even longer. He gives us a solid 6-7 hours every night right now.

      Have a great Thanksgiving!

  5. Sounds like your getting the hang of having a baby around. I am not sure I could do it…lol. I think I might make my series challenge read this month too! I am 15% into the last one to have caught up on a cozy series! I can do it! πŸ™‚ Have a great week and good luck with your new job!

    • LOL yeah, it’s trickier than I expected – and I expected it to be challenging. Babies just need so much and each one is so different. I’d very much like to take issue with the grand design that makes babies form of communicating crying rather than talking. Is it really so hard to give them the ability to say, “I’m hungry”, “I have gas”? Because man would it be easier if you knew what was wrong!

You can do it! Sounds like you may be finished with the book by time you get this comment even! Happy reading and Happy Thanksgiving Stormi <3

  6. That is an awesome week! The tag team bedtime / night is what we did. I fed her at 10 and went right to bed, then my husband stayed up with her. But she slept until I woke her at 6am to feed and went back to sleep while I showered and got ready to go to work. She only needed a 3 or 4am feeding for 2 weeks and after that slept 11-6 without fail. It is so smart you are getting the routine figured out. I hope this week is a great one to relax and spend time with him and family before you go back to work. Don’t mess up those routines too much with the holiday!

I finished my last ReadaSeries in a Month last night and am excited for COYER!

    • Congrats on finishing your last book! I finished mine yesterday πŸ™‚

Your daughter sounds like she was the PERFECT baby. Dante does well, but it’s definitely been a build up to these nights of sleeping from about 11:30/12 until 6/6:30. And he’s a horrid napper! At least that problem is soon to be daycare’s problem and not mine lol. Is that horrible of me? I think I’m going to try and do my morning routine all week with him, just taking off the weekend like I’ve been doing (and will be doing in the future once I go back to work). Not like he knows that it’s a holiday.

      Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Anne!
