News at Home: In a Boot!
So I’m back (pretty sure at least…)! I just needed a little break with all I’ve got going on starting to overwhelm me there a couple weeks ago. Hopefully it’ll stick π
So I’m in a boot π About 3 weeks ago I started having a bit of pain in my left foot. At first I thought it was just tightness and I honestly just stretched more and that was it. But when after a week it was still hurting pretty bad at my massage, I decided to pull back at the gym. Only low impact. And then after a week of that it still hurt, maybe even worse. So I cancelled all gym activities and made a podiatrist appointment for Friday, since that’s when I had a day off work. Turns out, I have a stress fracture in the 3rd metatarsal. Apparently it’s common among athletes (and I’ve decided this means I’m an athlete lol) and if I hadn’t pulled back when I did it could have been pretty serious. I have 3 weeks in a boot and fingers crossed I should be good. That brings me to June 13th and I have a fitness retreat June 15th, so PLEASE let it be okay. I paid too much money to not be able to go and work my ass off. Literally! haha
Besides that, its the rough time of year at school. We’ve got two weeks left, which is a LONG time at this point. We had our field trip to the zoo on Thursday and that went pretty well but prepping for a field trip is a LOT of work. So I worked late almost every day last week. And then Thursday I was there late getting ready for next week. At this point, I’m just trying to survive, basically. Teach the kids a few more things and keep them from driving me insane. Meanwhile, my school is having construction this summer, so I have to completely pack my room up and take everything to storage. I’m actually going to be in a different classroom and everything next summer, so EVERYTHING has to get packed. sigh and I’m in a boot.
I heard back from SMU and I didn’t get in. What really peeves me is that the email the sent essentially says (in much fancier and lengthier words) that I’m an excellent candidate and they’d love to have me, when I get the right job title. Such as principal, assistant principal, etc. And one way that would be acceptable is if I worked at an educational consulting firm. Someone who has NO classroom experience would get in, but I won’t because I’m “just” a teacher. And this is exactly why I want to get in, because that’s how fucked our system is. I should be MORE qualified than all those people because I teach every day. But that’s not how it’s seen. sigh So I’m trying to figure out next steps, but I’m struggling because I’m not ready to leave the classroom.
At home, my mother-in-law arrived from Mexico on Wednesday and will be staying until who-knows-when. She’s a nice lady and doesn’t speak any English, so as MILs go, not a bad gig. And she floats around to all the different houses, so again, not bad. My husband spends pretty much all his free time with her and, while I love him, it’s kinda nice to have an empty house. So yeah. Not bad. Today is the annual family party – technically birthday for his older brother David – but because it’s always the Sunday of Memorial day weekend it’s become like a family reunion. My brother comes and I hang with him, enjoy some good food, dancing, and a fabulous drag performance. We’ll see if anything goes different this year.
Oh and Monday we’ll be celebrating my mom’s 60th birthday! Technically it’s today, but because we have these standing plans, we’ll celebrate tomorrow. Since she’s just stopped being a Jehovah’s Witness this year, it’s her first ever birthday, though. She requested cake. LOL! That’s all she could decide on… so we’re taking her to see that new star wars movie (I don’t do star wars and know nothing about it), lunch and yes… cake. And we have a gift card for her to go to my masseuse. So even though it’s a long weekend, I’ve already been and will be crazy busy. Typical. LOL.
Blog News
Well if all goes as planned, but Monday night I’ll be set for a couple week of posts. And starting today, I’m going to try and do the visiting thing every morning again. Hope I can get past this tough part of the year… it seems to be my tough spot every year since I started teaching. I think it’s just when I hit that mental exhaustion from school.
We also have announced our Summer COYER! I’m super excited, as it’s a 5th birthday bash full of nostalgic moments. I haven’t had time to really give much thought to how I’ll participate yet though, so no sign up from me yet. If you want the details, go check out the sign up post.
As far as reading goes, I’ve been doing great! I’ve been basically binge listening to In Death and as a result I’m like 4 or 5 books ahead on my goodreads goal for the year π
#FitReaders Update
So obviously the boot is a big setback on my fitness goals π But until then I was having a good month and I’m still hoping to finish it out strong. I have found several water aerobic classes and made it to an aqua zumba class yesterday. So I’m still working out and eating right, for the most part.
My big fitness goal this month was to be able to do a plank for one minute. Well I can now hold a plank for 1 minute, two times in a row! The second one is considerably harder than the first, but I can do it. Getting closer and closer to that burpee, which is my big goal right now.
I’ve met my weight loss goal for the month, but gained a couple pounds since missing the gym for a week. I’m still under the goal, but would like to see the goal going back the right direction again. Hopefully now that I’m getting workouts in again it will.
I saw my surgeon since I lost posted and it went really well. Turns out, some of the weight I’ve been working so hard to lose is skin. A lot of it, in fact. My arms are toned and then skin. No fat left, he says. Same with my waist. So I made an appointment to see a plastic surgeon in June – it seems I need to start working on removing the skin if I’m going to get a real picture of where I am and what I need to lose. I want to get rid of 60 pounds, but I’ll be curious if I really do want to do that much after the skin is gone. And I plan to add boobs. Because y’all it’s just pitiful. I’m flat chested and droopy as hell now. It’s like I’m 60… but I’m 33.
Oh and I’ve had some nice NSV these past weeks. At work we had some shirts given to us and the booster people handed me a medium. I was like, “um, can I get an xl?” and they asked if I liked them big because that would be too big. So I nervously accepted a large – I didn’t want anything that wouldn’t fit – and what do you know, it’s loose. Then this Friday I had to get a swimsuit, because doing aqua fit now with the foot injury. My last swimsuit was a 28/30. So I started with a 20. WAY too big. I ended up buying a size 16. Wow. Then yesterday I tried on my party dress for the party today — I had planned on wearing what I wore to my brother’s graduation in December. It’s a bag on my now (mostly because of boobs, but waist too). So I decided to pull out another dress. It looked good but I needed a better bra (aka one that actually fits). So I went to Maddox and they keep customer profiles. Well I bought a new bra and new waist trainer to hold in all the skin. I went from a 2x to a medium. A Medium! I still can’t believe I wear a medium anything, but especially something that form fitting.
So May’s been a good fitness/weight loss month. Boot and all π

Just getting to this now. I’m so behind. Glad you are getting some answers. Mad for you that you didn’t get into school. xo
Thanks Jen. It still peeves me a bit too. Education is where I belong, but it frustrates the hell out of me.
I know exactly how you feel about the last few weeks of school. Its been BRUTAL. Thankfully, all we have this week are exams and graduation. Then I’m FREE!
Congrats on the super awesome NSV! Fitting into smaller clothes is the best feeling in the world. Hope your foot heals quickly!
Thanks Samantha, fingers crossed the boot comes off as scheduled. So jealous! I have two weeks to go – and seem to be the only one! Poor planning by my district (what else is knew?). Have a great week!
Wow! Great job, Berls!! I’m so proud and happy for you! Poop on the job, though. Grrrr! Do you think they can recycle the extra skin to fashion some boobies? Cause recycling is a good thing to do. No? Yeah, probably not my greatest idea.
I wish I lived nearby. I’d totally help you pack up your classroom. And probably play with stuff until you yelled at me. π
I hope you have a fantastic week, Berls! XOXO
Thank you Carol!
Hahahahaha you have me laughing so hard I’m crying. Yes, that would be quite handy if they could repurpose that skin; I actually am already attempting it via a waist trainer. It’s not working 100% but it’s better than without. Not quite as comfy as I’d like though either. How did chicks where corsets all the time?
I’m putting the kids to work this week with packing. Of course there’s only so much they can do, but they are eager helpers at least π I’m just annoyed. I don’t get paid enough to have to move out all my shit like this and then setup a room all over again π
Hope you have a great week Carol!
Oh dear! Wow, that can happen, just due to too much exercise? This reminds me of that time when a lady with a particularly mean shoe stepped on my foot in a bus. It hurt to the point where I was nearly blacked out for two hours. I think something must’ve gotten broken, because 5 years later there’s still a mark and it sometimes hurts. Hurt as hell for like two years. Never got it checked out. I mean, do you go to a doctor and say “a lady stepped on my foot” xD so I still don’t know what happened there.
Sorry about the job though :/ that is stupid rules indeed.
I hope your foot gets better soon π have a great week!
Wow! that would have been a story for the doctor for sure!
So yeah – athletes sustain injuries all the time from over use… and apparently that’s what I did. It’s more likely to happen if you’re not wearing the right shoes and equipment and stuff – which is why I’m spending some money on custom made insoles for my shoes too. Prevent reinjury hopefully.
Have a great week!
