News at Home

Sunday

Today was a great day. Dante slept until about 8, we had breakfast and I visited blogs. Then it was time to pick up groceries and I did some meal prep when I got home. Dante took a short nap – like 1 hour – and then after he and Kiko went on a walk. I did some more blog visiting and was done with everything by dinner time. We had a nice dinner, Dante had his bath and we played a bit before bed time. I’m getting ready to head to bed, right on schedule to have a great night’s sleep, with everything ready for a great week. Fingers crossed!

Monday

I was not good with my eating today, but otherwise it was a good day. I went to the gym, was ready to leave early, Dante didn’t cry at drop off and work was SLOW. I picked Dante up and got a good report and when we got home he wasn’t fussy at all. We ate dinner, played, and we’ll be getting ready for bed shortly. Everything is on schedule and I feel like I should seriously knock on wood!

Tuesday

Another decent day! I pulled something in my upper back during my workout today, but besides that the morning went really well. Dante didn’t cry at daycare drop off again πŸ™‚ Work was semi-busy – as in, I had work to do until about lunch time. I spent the afternoon doing some coding lessons and applying for community college this fall.

Here’s the thing – if we don’t get student loans pushed off or canceled by October when they’re currently set to renew, I have other financial plans. It would be cheaper for me to put my loans on hold by being enrolled part time in a degree plan (about $500 total for August – December) at community college than it would be to make the payments (about $450/month). And this way I (1) get new skills from the money and (2) wait to see if we get some legislation that helps out a bit. I tried to get student loan forgiveness as a teacher and that was denied. It’s like impossible to get help with student loans – we have an impossible system. Anyway… once I get accepted I can enroll in 2 online classes for the fall.

This evening I picked Dante up and had a good report and he’s been in a great mood this evening. I’m about to watch a little bit of The Bachelorette (I’ve never watched it but I watched The Bachelor for the first time last year, so I’m curious) before getting Dante to bed. Oh and I had a mixed day on food – some healthy, some not. I’m just so frustrated, I’m struggling to care.

Wednesday

Today I celebrated my 37th birthday and it was a really nice day. I started with a workout and birthday burpees. At work they treated me to a decorated desk and a really nice gift – cozy slippers, a journal with weekly prompts, nail polish strips, lunch and cherry pie (my favorite). It was a really nice day and I felt super spoiled. At home Kiko and Dante gave me a card to get some new clothes and shoes <3 and then we had bath time and bed time. Also, Dante gave me another great day at daycare – no crying at drop off and a great report. I think we’ve settled in finally!

Thursday

I has spin class this morning and they did a special song to celebrate my birthday. Gotta love this gym, every day this week they’ve made me feel special.

On the negative – Dante coughed all night πŸ™ I think it’s allergies though, since he also has puffy eyes and runny nose. He was a little fussy this morning but we got off to daycare on time and there were no tears at drop off. And the report was good at pickup too… so I think we’re just going to try some Benadryl tonight. And I also think we’ve got a growth spurt happening/coming – he’s eating so much!

Work was good – I had some work, did some coding practice. I also met with my nutritionist today – something I needed badly. I’ve got some mind resetting to do, including learning to be more compassionate with myself.

The evening was also good – our routine is working out really well and Dante has stopped being so clingy; I think last week it was remnants of not feeling well. He’s happy and playing as I write this. We’ll do his bedtime in a bit and then I follow right after him πŸ™‚

Friday

Well Dante coughed again all night. I’m praying it’s allergies, even though Benadryl didn’t help at all. My Fitbit also died on me in the middle of the night, so when I woke up I didn’t know the time. I grabbed my phone in a panic – my alarm is on my Fitbit – and it was 5:15. Fridays are my day to sleep in until 6:15 – every other day I wake up at 5:15. But I was awake now, so I got up, charged my Fitbit and began my day.

Got out the door on time, daycare drop off went really well and got to work right on time. Work was semi busy today which was good. I actually didn’t have time to do my coding practice.

Kiko had to work super late, but we ordered in Thai food for dinner and he managed to get home in time to eat before we put Dante to bed. I’m wrapping up a few things and then I’ll be off to bed. Really thankful how well our routine is going lately.

Saturday

Today we went out to Campbell (where Franky and his family live) to celebrate my birthday. Phil and Zach also drove out and we had such a good time. I drank – a lot – and we played pool and a couple of group games. Dante played outside and in the swing. We had pizza and cake and it was just a great time. They also surprised me with gifts! I was not expecting them at all – the get together was gift enough for me. I got some makeup items from my Amazon wish list from Tequilla and Jose, along with more slippers, and the ultimate bath kit from Franky and Helena. They also gifted me with some dishes for Dante that will be super handy. Then Phil and Zach got me a new Kindle Paper White! I have the original and it’s slowed down quite a bit and isn’t water proof. So now I can take my ultimate bath with my new kindle πŸ™‚

We got home about 10:30 and I’m just wrapping up this post and heading to bed! All in all, a good week!

My big goal for 2021 is to get down to my goal weight. It means losing 70 pounds this year.

After last week I kind of spiraled and then figured, well it’s my birthday week, so I kept going. BUT I also had my nutritionist this week and she helped me come up with an approach to the scale that I’m really hopeful will help me not fall apart every time the scale doesn’t show a loss. Part of that is doing a rolling average – had I been doing that last week I would have realized that even with the two days of weight gain in a row, I was actually down 5.6 pounds for the week! But instead I spiraled and now I’ve truly gained. But I have a plan!

(Rolling) Weight gain/loss: +3.2 pounds for the year

Added to My Shelf

I’m trying to be more responsible about keeping track of the books I acquire, so I’m going to start sharing them again. If I share them here, surely I’ll remember to add them to Goodreads, right?

How was your week? What are you Reading?

  2. Happy Birthday! It sounds like you had a nice one, Berls. Wasn’t Pride ,Prejudice, and Other Flavors good? I really enjoyed it. I hope you have a great week! Enjoy your reading!

  3. Well in spite of eating frustrations you had a great week with good routines. That’s how you have a base from which to make progress. Wow you already read the Sonali Dev book. I won’t start for another week but I have it on audio from the library. I can’t read anything from the library until it is due in like 2 or 3 days. LOL. Yay for the new Kindle!

  4. Aw, I missed your birthday! Happy birthday! I’m glad you had a good week! πŸ˜€

I really struggled with eating this week too. I had a dr appointment and actually saw how much weight I gained and was just like efff it and ate everything in sight. Did that make me feel better? Absolutely not. I mean, I was down three pounds from January, but that’s still up 25 from last year. Yikes.
