Week in READ-view and The Sunday Post 6/1

WIR vectorstock_43821-1-1Week in READ-view is a post I have posted on Sundays telling you what I have been up to this week and what I read or am reading. The Sunday Post is a meme sponsored by the awesome Kimba at the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Blog News:

I WENT TO BEA!!!! I had so much fun and I didn’t really see or talk to many bloggers because I had a bad experience with one last year after she told me I totally fangirled on her and I actually just said hello (no fangirling involved), she was actually very full of herself and I found her to be rather rude so I didn’t go up to anyone fearing of making a fool out of myself which I apparently did last time, I guess. I also always feel like people are going to think I’m a weirdo or stalker. That’s my lack of confidence, I will do better next time πŸ™‚

I got an amazing bunch of books and spent most of my time in front of the Spencer Hill Press booth (like a creeper), If you don’t know or never read a Spencer Hill Book you must, I think Spencer Hill is one of my favorite publishing companies. They are super sweet and have some great books. If you didn’t see the pictures I posted on Twitter of everything I got I will post them below. My favorite part of going was not only meeting Author Erica Cameron but while I was at another booth a girl was sitting there and were were chatting she said my blog looks so familiar, I asked if maybe she follows on twitter. She then asked if I do a spotlight for authors on my blog and then I saw her name tag Annie Cosby and we both were like OMG! I did a spotlight for her in March and just by a random chance we meet. It was a great surprise and I was so happy to have meet her. You can see her Author Spotlight post HERE. I also talked to someone else who told me they go on my blog, I was flattered she could have been lying but it totally made my day :). When I got home I was in so much pain from holding all the books and my legs were so soar. It’s fun but WOW it’s like exercise…I can’t wait for next year πŸ™‚

I only had one bad encounter and I was actually kind of sad about it because the person who was very rude almost made me not want to read the book I asked for. Now I’m not saying he had to give me the book but he could have said no I’m sorry we have a limited amount and we have already gave our fill today. That would have been a lot nicer then Ya! I don’t think we have any!! and he never even looked at me, his tone was very nasty. This was after reading my badge. I wasn’t being a jerk about the book, I actually really wanted it and loved the first one. You can also totally tell he was lying. Might think twice before interacting with that publishing company (I would rather not say who)

What else is going on?

Ok so as most of you know the last couple of months has been stressful for me because of something going on in my personal life and I said it meant big change that could be for the better or not. My dad has been the owner of a knife sharpening business (large industrial knives) for 55 years and his father and father’s father had it before, The business has been here for about 91 years. My husband works with my dad, he has worked for him for 14 years. My father has decided to retire and he sold the business which meant my husband was going to lose his job and we thought we had time but it turned out to be June 1st. We were getting no info and I was a nervous wreck because my husband who has MS needed his insurance, as does my son. We would not only lost the pay but also the insurance and both Medications they are on. We both live paycheck by paycheck as most people do so this was going to be a huge hit on us financially and even unemployment wouldn’t help. We were in serious trouble if he didn’t find another job and quick!!! Now I don’t blame my dad, he has been working his ass off for 55 years, he deserves to rest and enjoy his life with no stress but we were put in a tight spot. Well after waiting weeks, the guys who bought my dads shop want to take the 3 guys who work there (my husband included) it’s an hour away from our house but we just found out that it will be totally worth the trip and they are looking into giving him insurance as soon as possible plus a van to use for deliveries so he wont have to use our car. For weeks I have been planning for the worst and things are still a little up in the air but the outcome so far has been positive. So fingers crossed for me friends I am hoping that this works out because it would be a huge change but a VERY GOOD ONE πŸ™‚ Thank god!!!!

I am off to enjoy WWE Payback with the kids tonight, you know my favorite kind of Sunday!

  1. What a massive week. You’ve certainly been through the wringer. Luckily it looks like everything is working out. Very jealous you got to go to BEA. Just soaking up the excited vibe from other visitors would have been fun.

So glad you are going to join us. COYER is so much fun you will make a nice dent in your TBR Pile and find some great blogs to follow.

  2. YAY on the good news! *jumps up & down* And I’m so jelly you went to BEA. I will get there one of these years soon and then we can totally stalk people together. It’s best to do it in pairs, looks less stalkerish. lol Have a wonderful stress-free week! πŸ™‚

  3. So glad you got the job situation worked out. How scary that must have been! Also that’s awful about your blogger experience. Sounds like the problem was her not you. BEA sounds fantastic though! Have a great week! I’m sure this week will be so much more relaxing since the job is taken care of!

    • Yes it will be a lot less stress. I have my fingers crossed he likes it but either way he can work until he finds another job if he wants to. BEA was great, I also believe it was her but I was just shocked since I find bloggers to be so awesome.

    • It was so much fun πŸ™‚ Now I have to figure out what I want to read first. I hope they have one by you too they are a lot of fun!

  4. Oh Michelle, you stalker you πŸ™‚ Scary how some people suddenly can turn out to be so strange and psycho. I’m not the most confident person, so that would have really put me off as well. Glad this time was nice, and one bad experience didn’t taint BEA. What a great haul aahhhh.
And I’m so pleased about your husband’s job, it is such a worry and nothing anyone says can take that worry away I feel, unless you know for sure.

  5. I enjoyed reading about your BEA experience and am impressed that you were able to post it so quickly. I was at two pre-BEA events on Wednesday (9 am to 10 pm), followed by three days at BEA, and will be splitting up my comments on separate blog posts because I’m overwhelmed by it all–in a good way, of course.

I always wondered what the blogger conference was like–I haven’t been able to attend because I go to an all-day Library Journal event held at the same time.

Glad everything worked out for your family–that is a huge relief. I’m off to find out more about your COYER challenge . . ,

    • I was only at BEA For one day but it was so much fun πŸ™‚ I didn’t do the blogger conference and not sure if I will next year either but I will do the trade show for 3 days next year.

I hope you will join is for coyer it’s a lot of fun πŸ™‚

  6. I’m still so jealous you got to go to BEA. Sorry you had some bad moments, but sounds like it was a success overall. And yay!! I’m so glad Scott’s job is working out – even if he does have to drive a long ways, its better than being unemployed! Enjoy the wrestling with the kiddos :)TTYL

  7. I am so glad things worked out for you and your hubby. What a relief. As for BEA and lasts years bad experience..do not let that stop you from chatting with fellow bloggers. Awesome haul and aside from that one publisher/author I am glad you had fun.

  8. Glad you had a great time at BEA, sounds like so much fun. I like going to cons but have never really been to one devoted just to books like that. Must be a great experience! Looks like ya got lots of good books and some swag too!

Glad to hear your husband can stay on, that kind of stress is tough. Hope it all works out well and have a great week.

    • Thanks Greg! I haven’t been to any other cons but the book one is lots of fun.
I am also glad the guys are keeping my husband, I do hope he at least likes the job traveling 2 hours a day is tough but the money is good πŸ™‚

  9. That’s so awesome you met Erica Cameron! And that’s fun meeting one of your spotlight authors. Sounds like you had a great time! Let’s hope you can interact more with other bloggers next year. And I would totally fangirl if I met you in real life, just saying ;). As visiting BEA isn’t doable for me, I participated in Armchair bea, although I didn’t got to visit as many blogs as I wanted to, it was still fun though,

And luckily the change turned to be out not so bad as you thought. That’s awesome news your husband got to keep his job. I know from personal experience how difficult being unemployed can be. I hope you have a great week!

Lola recently posted: Sunday Post #76
    • I would totally fangirl you too πŸ™‚
I loved meeting both of them and they were so sweet! I love meeting authors and plan to meet a lot more next year because I want to go all 3 days instead of just one.

Unemployed stinks and I was in a panic. I am also glad he was able to merge with the company, I do feel bad for my dad since he isn’t sure what to do with himself and seems a bit depressed now but I am hoping he finds that this is a good change for him and a time to sit back and relax and maybe go on trips with my mom.

    • Yes a few people do ruin it but really only 1 and my lack of confidence from an experience last year but it happens anyplace you go…except disney everyone is overly happy in disney lol

It is very stressful sorry you had to experience it last summer, it’s a bummer but I am hopful this is a good change now and I guess only time will tell.

      Thanks for stopping by Julie!!!

    • It really was fun, I try not to let those people get to me. Always a few rotten apples in a bunch….Thanks for stopping by Sharon! πŸ™‚

    • Yes and it might mean good money, I just hope he likes it! Thank you for the finger crossing πŸ™‚

Yes Messenger of Fear looks amazing I missed a copy at BEA so I am glad I was able to get a galley on edelweiss.

      Have a great week!!!
