News at Home: A Great Week Back!
Y’all I had a pretty great week back to school! Even though spring break was far from relaxing, it was productive and having a better home space definitely is paying off. But, more than that… my kids were just really good. Yes, I had a couple kids misbehave. But for the most part, my kids did what they were supposed to and we were able to just learn and have a good time. It was like the week I wish I always had. Dare I hope that next week will be equally good?!!
I also asked my principal and AP for recommendation letters for my Ed.D. program — Eeek! I was so nervous about asking them, because – while I know they think highly of me – would they have a problem with me missing work for school and having a path that means leaving in the not too distant future? Well, when I asked them for a recommendation (separately) both their faces fell at first. See I asked, “I was wondering if you’d be willing to write me a recommendation? I’m applying to go to school for my Doctorate in Education.” They both assumed I was asking for a recommendation for a new job… LOL! My principal said, “If it was for a job, I’d have to say yes, but I’d cry while writing it.” Hahaha. They are both really excited for me though and enthusiastically willing to write me a recommendation. I didn’t tell them about the charter school plan – I felt that was too far, especially since it involves my co-workers who are not ready to say anything either. But I told them I wanted to better understand policy so that I can start making changes at a larger scale. The truth, with pieces missing π I also emailed my PhD adviser and we’re going to talk tonight a bit, but he’s already told me he is more than happy to write a recommendation for me.
This weekend has been good – though not as productive as I’d planned because I was tired and fell asleep for about 3 hours yesterday! I have a lot I want to get accomplished today… cleaning, working on my application to SMU, groceries (but I literally need like 3 things!), and some GRE practice. Plus I need to do a tiny bit to get ready for week for the week. My mom is coming over today to do her laundry as well, so that will be interesting. First time she’ll be over since moving out. This week is a short week though, I’m off Friday! Very excited for the break π
Blog News
Bloggiesta wraps up today and I’ve been pretty much a failure in my goals :/ I hosted 1 twitter party and will host another 1 today at 4pm EST. And I visited all the participant blogs. But that’s about all I’ve done. I will try to do a lot of work today so I don’t feel like a complete failure. I’ll update my sign up post with my final progress tonight.
Blog Ahead started yesterday and yeah, I’m not doing so hot there either. *sigh* but I do have a plan and I HOPE it will mean that by the end of Blog ahead I’ll actually be done with posts all the way through April and into May!
In challenges we host territory… we’re doing another Can You Read a Series in a Month? in April. This has to be one of my favorite challenges because I just love binge reading series. I hope you’ll think about joining us.
#FitReaders Update
My back has been doing a lot better this week – I did have a little twinge in Turbo Kick Thursday, but I pulled back and was fine yesterday when I did my double. Hopefully I’ll be good in Turbo Kick today!
Here are my goals for March:
Do yoga every Monday β Friday: I did yoga Monday, Tuesday, and Friday. Better than last week, but yeah, still not every weekday! I really need to do better, as I can feel the difference it makes.
Drink 64 oz of water daily & track it!: Nailed it!
Track all food β hit goals of 37% protein, 27% carbs, and 36% fat: I tracked Monday – Thursday really well, but Friday and Saturday not really. But I killed it on my goals this week π
Complete March #strongestwomenindallas challenge at my gym β 20 classes, 2 of each format: I finished on March 12th! Gym this week was Wednesday Dance club Cardio, Thursday Pure Strength and Turbo Kick, Saturday powerbelle and dance club cardio, Sunday (today) will be Turbo Kick and Complete Core.
Lose 20 lbs: Y’all the scale hates me. I’ve been good this week but I’m gaining weight again. Not a ton, but still, the wrong direction. For the month I’m down only 6 pounds. I’m hoping this week things will go into hyper drive and I’ll lose at least 4 more pounds… 10 for the month. The scale has kind of become an obsession though, so I’m also trying to pull back from weighing daily. It’s hard, because I’m working so hard, I desperately want to see that scale moving!
My NSV for the week: Since I’m scale obsessed lately, I’m trying to pick a non-scale victory to focus on. This week, it’s definitely how easy it was to get back into the gym after a week away. It’s such a part of my life, I missed it!
Days since surgery: 227
Total weight lost since surgery: 134 pounds
Weight loss total (since 2010β¦): 261 pounds!

Sounds like a great week and I love what your principal said about crying while writing it! Can’t wait to see how this develops for you. I hope this week is going just as wonderfully!
Thanks Katherine. I’m super excited and nervous all in one π Hope you’re having a great week!
I know we talked about it in the FB group, but I agree with focusing on non-scale victories and trying to pull away from daily weigh-ins is a good idea. Glad you are doing well overall, though! Looking forward to see what April brings. Great job on the ED.D. process- it must be a bit scary.
I’m so glad you had a good week back, Berls. My fingers are crossed your kiddos will behave this week as well. π I had to giggle over your principal – I’m sure she wasn’t exaggerating about the crying. π But I’m happy you have a plan and things seem to be moving ahead.
I was going to do Bloggiesta but time just got away from me…as happens a lot lately. No worries about not doing as much as you’d hoped. You’ll do better next time…and maybe I’ll actually get signed up! LOL
Here’s hoping your back stays good, the scale is your friend, and your mom’s visit today went well. Well, basically I wish all good things coming your way! π {{{big hugs}}}
Haha hanks Brandee. So far all is going well… Fingers crossed the kiddos keep it going that way π I actually managed to finish my bloggiesta to-do list after all! I hope you get to sign up next time.
Miss you, can’t wait for July!!! {{big hugs}}
I’m so glad you had such a great week back! That certainly makes going back after break easier! I have 4 days this week then I am free!! Spring break cannot get here soon enough!
I never do well at challenges during the school year. I just don’t have enough time!
Hope this week is just as great as last week!
Thanks Samantha, me too. I have a four day week too, so close after spring break. Enjoy your break, y’all have earned it!!
I totally failed at my Bloggiesta goals. I did nothing. Life has been too much right now. I hope the changes this weekend help me turn it around for next week’s Blog Ahead. I am so glad you had a great week! Your recommendation story is funny. That’s what a former boss told me, too! I would definitely not say any words whatsoever about your charter plans. It’s not their business anyway. I hope you have a great week!
I know the feeling Charlie, I didn’t 100% fail, but I also didn’t get much accomplished. I hope blog Ahead goes better for both of us! I agree, the charter school plans seem like something they don’t need to hear about. Have a great week!
I am glad you had a great week. I am excited for your eduction to continue! It means big things!!! π
Don’t worry about the blog, we will get it together eventually. We both have lots of awesome stuff going on. I have some time this week to do some posts. No Worries!
Looking forward to the chat but first I have to catch a bulbasaur with Ryan (pokemon) π
Have a great week! Happy Reading! oxox
Thanks Michelle, I’m excited too. Very nervous at this stage, but excited. I love that we can cover each other on the blog, it makes things so much easier and less stressful. I want to get caught up, but I won’t over stress π
Happy hunting lol!
I’m so glad you had a great week. Good luck on your new schooling. I’m sure you’ll do great. {{hugs}}
Thanks Melanie. I’m super nervous about being able to get in at this point. Then I’m worried about the cost. After that, it’s the program lol the stress and worries know how to pile on, huh? But I’m more excited than anything. {{hugs}} have a great week!
WOW, Berls! I hope next week will be just as good, and that your kids will continue to behave, learn, and have a good time at school with you.
And getting your Phd in education is such a good plan! I feel like I’ve missed an episode here, though… I’ve been so busy lately I’ve been slacking on visiting blogs. I guess I need to read your post from last week, eh?
I’m sure you’ll succeed, you are such a strong woman, and when you set your mind to something, you make it happen.
I miss you! {{{BIG HUGS}}}
Hahaha no worries, I’m behind on visiting too! It might be a couple weeks back – I’m applying to go back for my ED.D. because I have the ultimate goal of opening my own school! Scary right? But if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself. I’m more excited than nervous, though I AM super nervous. I hope you’re doing great!! Miss you bunches. {{hugs}}
