News at Home

I took this week off from work and it was FANTASTIC. It made me realize how much easier it would be if I didn’t have to work while watching Dante. It would be downright stress free and fun.

On Monday we went for a play date with a friend of mine (the same one we usually go to, because she’s just as careful as we are). Both her boys celebrate birthdays between Wednesday of this past week and Wednesday of next week, so we celebrated their birthdays and had some Thanksgiving fun.

Tuesday my brother Philip and his partner Zach came over for our Thanksgiving. We celebrated early so they could drive to Houston Wednesday to be with Zach’s family on Thanksgiving. It was a great day, even if it was a very different Thanksgiving for us from our traditional, with tons of family. We kept it super small for safety this year!

The rest of the week was pretty relaxing. I played with Dante, read, blogged, and napped. Total bliss. Thursday, since we were busy declining family invites (big groups and people just not taking things seriously enough), was a little stressful. It sucks to have to say no when you want nothing more than to be with family. We took a really nice walk though and had Pollo Regio for dinner. I didn’t leave the house again until Saturday, when I took Buffy to the vet for her annual shots. Besides that, it was just more relaxing. Today I will run my normal grocery errands, food prep, and chores for the week and then Monday back to normal life. It’s going to be so hard to go back to that stress, but at least I had a really great week. I hope everyone else did as well!

Blog News

As I mentioned, I spent a good deal of time Wednesday – Saturday blogging. So much time that I’m basically done with my posts for December (just not the ones that I can’t do in advance, like Sunday Posts). And I’ve made major headway on Goodreads shelf reorganization I’d been working on. And  I have a game plan for staying ahead… I’m really hoping that it will mean regularly visiting all of you, replying to comments, and having a consistent four posts per week (Tell Me Something Tuesday, Review, Fit Readers, and Sunday Post), plus rejoining in on Michelle’s TBR List Meme.

COYER

Michelle and I have worked hard to get ready for COYER 2021 and this week you’ll get to see the full plan. I’m super excited for it, especially because I feel prepared and like I can be organized way better than this year (where we just made it year long on a whim). This year has been fun, but being organized is my zen place 🙂 Watch for the details on Wednesday. And join us in the FB Group on Sunday for a Facebook Live event to preview our plans and ask questions.

Holiday Hop

Michelle and I announced a Holiday Hop November 18th… and then our blog went down several days and I’m not sure everyone got to see it. I hope a few of you can join us in spreading some Holiday Cheer, since it’s an off Holiday with COVID.

Added to My Shelf

I’m trying to be more responsible about keeping track of the books I acquire, so I’m going to start sharing them again. If I share them here, surely I’ll remember to add them to Goodreads, right?

How was your week? What are you Reading?

About Berls

Michelle adopted me as part of her blog when I decided to close down my blog, Fantasy is More Fun. The blog was dying, but my love of reading and the blogosphere was still strong as ever - so I found my new home here at Because Reading!

  1. I’m so glad you got some time off! Doesn’t it feel GREAT to be able to take a breath and create a game plan to tackle the things you need to do? I hope today wasn’t too hard for you!

I can’t wait to see the things you’ll post about and I’m especially excited for the COYER reveals. I started Slave to Sensation today and I’m pretty excited!

Hope this week is as smooth as possible for you!

    • Thanks Stephanie! It’s going fairly well – obviously not as great as being off or life as normal, but good enough 🙂 And it feels so good to have a handle on blogging again! I feel like I’m actually swimming instead of drowning or desperately trying to float (if that analogy makes any sense). COYER post tomorrow 🙂 SQUEE!
      Have a great week!

    • I know, the blog being down was such a bummer. I’m just glad it was back up in time for me to blog my heart out and get ready for next year. I feel so organized and prepared 🙂 The relaxation was very much needed and I’m so grateful for it. So much to be grateful for this year, despite all the challenges – I have a healthy family, a job, and great friends. It’s more than enough 🙂 Have a great week Anne!

  2. Now that sounds like the week off gave you a good recharge and a sense of preparedness for upcoming things. I love that feeling of being organized and prepared, too. Glad you got to see a small family group and get a party play date. I need to hit the library for the first psy-changeling for the readalong.

    Have a great week, Berls!

    • I started the Psy-changling book and it is GOOD. I think you’ll enjoy it 🙂

It did, such a refreshing week. I hope next week isn’t too hard getting back into the swing of things. Hope you have a great week!

  3. Glad to hear you had a nice Thanksgiving, even if smaller than normal. It was the same here. Just three of us. One sister totally gets it but the other just carries on as if she doesn’t have a care in the world. Which is why I’ve barely seen her since March. *sigh* Hooray for the week off! I hope this week isn’t too tough returning after the time off.

    • Smaller is the responsible way to do it this year, even if it’s less fun and a little disheartening. It so hard when family doesn’t get it. We’re in that constant struggle with my stepson and his family, made all the more challenging because my husband works for his ex. *sigh* we will get through this.

      Have a great week!

  4. Glad you had a nice week off! It can really be rejuvenating when you take time away from work. Glad you had a nice holiday too if a little different. Our Thanksgiving is usually small to begin with but then my parents go over to other family’s houses and I usually try to get in on some shopping. All that was canceled. Which it was relieving not to need to shop and I was actually pretty happy that I got the things I normally buy earlier in the week from other sales that were just as good. I honestly wish stores would do THIS every year! So much less stressful!

Nice new read! That’s a new to me one! I hope you enjoy it once you get to read it!

    Here’s my StS

    Have a GREAT day!

    Old Follower 🙂

    • It really was – my first real break since last Christmas and I soaked it up! I do agree, black Friday the way they’ve done it this year would be so much better. I haven’t actually done any shopping yet 🙄 but that’s because I’m not sure who/what I’m gifting yet.

      Have a great week!
