News at Home
Sunday was a busy day – I had lots to get done in a short time: groceries, meal prep, laundry, and our Psy-Changling Readalong chat (which I really enjoyed, as always). Monday Dante had his 18 month checkup. It went well – he’s still growing super fast and is in the 78th percentile for height, 90th for weight. He needs to go to the eye doctor – last checkup he had an astigmatism and it got worse, so she wants us to have an eye doctor check it out. He may need glasses, may not, we’ll see. Part of me thinks he’d be so incredibly cute with glasses, and part of me thinks it would be hell trying to keep the glasses on a toddler lol!
The rest of the week was a blur. There was work – lots of work. And I’m discovering more and more affinity for coding… I’m seriously considering getting certified in some languages and pursuing a career in development. I mean I’m 36 (almost 37) so it’s a bit late to be deciding on yet another career, but I’m thinking about it.
Friday evening Franky and his girlfriend Helena surprised us by stopping by just before dinner. We already had ordered some food for us, so Franky ran out and grabbed them something and we had dinner together and just a really nice time. They helped us clean up and put Dante to bed and stayed for a couple hours more just talking and we had some drinks (not Franky – he was driving and won’t be 21 until April 6). Kind of blows my mind that I have a grown son and a toddler LOL.
Saturday I spent pretty much all day reading. Book club is today and I really wanted to finish the second book – which I did manage to finish around 4:30 yesterday. After that i went to Home Depot to get some plants and soil to restart my balcony garden… I’m starting earlier this year. I bought some Mexican Feather Grass, some Zinnia and Sunflower seeds, and some tomato seeds. Basically, I just want to do flowers this year… but I loved having fresh tomatoes so going to try them from seeds this year. Last year I bought a mostly grown tomato plant, so we’ll see how I do. I plan to actually plant everything today.

Challenge update
This week I finished:
I’m participating in 4 reading challenges this year. Here’s how I’m doing:
Backlist Reader hosted by Lark @ Bookwyrms Hoard: 15 (1 added this week)
Library Love hosted by Books of My Heart & Angel’s Guilty Pleasures: 2 (1 added this week)
New Release hosted by (un)Conventional Bookworms: 0 still!!
COYER (Spring) hosted by Because Reading:8 (2 added this week)
FitReaders (hosted by Jen @ That’s What I’m Talking About & Felicia The Geeky Blogger)
I met with my nutritionist this week and feel like I’m on a really good stride since my reset last week. I’m changing up my exercise to workout after work, while Dante naps and it’s working out much better. I just struggle to wake up early enough… because I struggle to get to bed early enough.
My goals for April:
- Workout 3x a week
- Take 4 walks a week
- Less than 20g sugar a day
- High protein and veggies
- Water for my beverages (don’t drink my calories/sugar!)
Goal for the year – get down to my goal weight FINALLY!
Added to My Shelf
I’m trying to be more responsible about keeping track of the books I acquire, so I’m going to start sharing them again. If I share them here, surely I’ll remember to add them to Goodreads, right?
I’ve been re-thinking careers lately too and I’m 35 so… I think we should totally go for it! lol
Sounds like a lovely evening with your family. I can’t wait to see mine again and get back to a place where people can just pop around. 🙂
I need to read Uprooted. Novik is an author I’ve had on my TBR for a while now.
Hope you’ve had a good week!
Love the new additions to your TBR shelf!! And it’s never too late to do what you love so I say go for it!!!
I can’t believe Dante is 18mo! Also, great job finishing both books for book club – you rock! I wanted to reread Uprooted and didn’t manage it. I’m still reading Addie Larue so no way I will finish it in the next hour.
Anne – Books of My Heart This is my Sunday Post
Girl, I am 41 and starting grad school for a new career. My mom tells me all the time she still doesn’t know what she wants to be when she grows up (she is 73)! If you find something you love, go for it! You still have lots of work years left in you-make them good ones!
Oooh, 40-Love is on my wish list! I hope you enjoy it!
And a garden is exciting! I miss mine, but I didn’t have time to tend it. This last year would have been the perfect time to get it started again…oh well.
Glad everything went well with Dante’s checkup! I think it would be super hard to keep glasses on a toddler, but they do look so cute! I always wonder how on Rugrats, Chuckie was so sophisticated as a 2-year old that he pretty much always kept them on and they never fell off or broke! That’s cartoons for you I guess! Lol! Sounds like a busy and productive week for you!
Nice new reads too! Lots of new to me ones! I love Chloe Neill’s vampire series! Her spinoff is just as entertaining as her original one! Hope you enjoy all the lovely new reads!
Here’s my StS
Have a GREAT day!
