Hermit Crabs and Christmas Madness~ WIR & TSP

WIR&TSPWeek in READ-view is a post I have posted on Sundays telling you what I have been up to this week and what I read or am reading. The Sunday Post is a meme sponsored by the awesome Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, post a recap of the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

On the Blog & Real Life:

So as most of you know at the moment I have 3 Hermit Crabs. Two in one cage, Spiderman and Leonardo, and one in his own cage Meanie. Meanie at the moment is in my son’s room keeping him company. The other day I noticed him not in his cereal box house that I made him so I was a little concerned that something might be wrong with him. A few weeks ago I thought we were going to lose Leonardo since two of his legs fell off but apparently that happens and they will grow back, Who knew! ANYWAY, I went to check on Meanie on Wednesday and when I looked in the cage he had fallen out of his shell and was all dried up and gross. So with a heavy heart I walked into the living room and announced that Meanie had in fact passed away. My daughter went HYSTERICAL! I took the cage out in the hallway so they didn’t have to see him and figured I would clean the cage out after dinner. BTW it’s cold in the hallway but he’s dead so he wont feel it. My daughter cried all through dinner. After dinner I went into the hall to clean out the cage and put him in a plastic bag so my husband could “bury” him. I scooped up the icky dead crab and pushed it in the bag and saw a bit of him still stuck to the shell. So with my hand in the bag I tried to pull it off, it wouldn’t come off the shell. I really didn’t want to touch it with my hand so I turned the shell over to give it a good pull…THE LITTLE SHIT MOLTED and was tucked in the shell. GOSH, DAMN IT, I THOUGHT HE WAS DEAD! I then took the entire cage back in the house and announced to the family that Meanie was in fact not dead but alive and molting. I made my daughter CRY!!!! These fucking things are going to kill me! So I now had him in the cold hallway for like an hour, which I was informed by my son was probably not a good thing to do, so I had to get him warmed up. I put him back in his little cereal box and covered the cage with dish towels to keep it dark and hopefully warm until his new outer shell hardens and he can safely move around. It will take a couple of days before he comes out to eat and drink but good gravy these thinks are killing me. My daughter was PISSED at me for making her cry. This would be the second time I thought one of these damn things died and they only molted. Thank god I’m not a doctor, the morgue would be fulled with very alive people.

I had one sick little boy this week, it started last weekend and sadly he missed the shitty breakfast with Santa. I took off of work on Monday to stay home with him and took him to the doctor. He had an ear Infection in his left ear, Sinusitis, Laryngitis and wheezing in his chest. I took him back to the doctor on Friday and he was cleared but still need to take the meds since it’s not 100% gone just enough to make him feel like himself. I never had him this sick and to the point that he barely moved all day. I have my fingers crossed the rest of us are going to be ok, I Lysoled the CRAP out of this house so maybe we will be ok and the house smells lovely.

My Christmas madness started on Friday, the next couple of days I will be in operation get shit done mode. I have a TON, I mean a TON, of stuff to do and get ready. I wasn’t really feeling very Christmas-y this last couple of weeks but for some reason on Saturday it hit me and I am feeling all the magic Christmas brings. I am so excited to see the kids on Christmas morning and I can’t wait to spend time with my family. I might have a ton to do but I am really excited about it all!

So the last few weeks I have been a VERY good girl when it comes to getting books so this week I really don’t feel bad about how many I grabbed since I felt like I deserved it for being such a good girl πŸ˜‰ Plus my slump is over, I am extremely happy I got my reading groove back!

  1. Sounds like a traumatic experience for everyone, but I had to laugh at the way you told it. I’ll bet you anything your family will be telling that story for decades to come.

I’m sorry your son has been sick and hope he feels better soon — and no one else catches it! Have a wonderful Christmas, Michelle.

  2. Note to self: never, ever buy hermit crabs… ever. This month sucks eggs, right?!?!?! Hey, you only get to traumatize your kids a few times, make it good!!!! πŸ™‚

Sorry the boy was sick! I hope he’s feeling better. If he doesn’t know already, there’s an update to Mario Maker coming on Tuesday that might cheer him up πŸ™‚

Merry Christmas!!! Now go get shit done!!! xoxoxoxo πŸ™‚

  3. You got some awesome books this week! Man, that hermit crab thing is crazy! I remember when I had a guinea pig in the classroom where I taught. One morning I came in and there were two extra balls of fur in the cage. I had purchased a pregnant guinea pig, and we now had two babies! They were adorable right off the bat, they have all their fur right away. I remember just being in shock and having to wander around the school to find someone else who was there that early so that I could share the craziness. Hope you have a good holiday week! You can check out my haul in the link below!

I’m sorry but your story about the hermit crabs had me LMFAO. Also, I will never, EVER own a hermit crab. I’d have them buried at the first sign of death. πŸ˜€

I hope Ryan’s feeling better and good luck getting everything done.

    Merry Christmas!

  5. One’s legs fall off and another looks dead…I am so not getting hermit crabs. Or crabs of any kind. lol I need to get you a book All About Hermit Crabs and Their Weirdness. hehe Glad to hear your son is feeling better and I hope your daughter has since forgiven you.

Look at you, you EW & HarperCollins slut. πŸ˜‰ I joined EW 3 or 4 yrs ago, went there once and had a hard time navigating it, so I never went back. Maybe when I get my NG % up some more (currently at 45%) I’ll check it out again. AS if I need more books, right? LOL

I hope you have a fantastic week and a very Merry Christmas! xoxo

Btw, I love my new blog design. I had fun (mostly) matching the rest of my blog to the header. πŸ˜€ Now, if I could just wrastle that stupid BookLikes blog into shape. It is so clunky over there! I apologize to Blogger for my minimal bitching yesterday.

  6. Oh I am curious to see if you like Anna Dressed in Blood! So many people have mentioned it! Great haul this week! Sorry about the hermit crab issue! Those things creep me out!

  7. His legs fell of and they grew back! That’s so weird and scary. And that’s so weird Meanie looked dead and then turned to be alive. Although it is a big relieve that he turned out to be alive. They sure sound like strange creatures, with how they escape, switch shells, seem death, but are alive, lose legs and then grow them back. It does make for interesting stories.

I hope Ryan feels better soon, although that’s good things are going a bit better already. I am not really feeling the christmas mood yet, but luckily everything I needed to get done is already done. I hope you have an awesome christmas!

I am glad you got out of your reading slump. I had a bit of a reading slump this week. Both books I was reading just felt meh and now I finally finished one of them and the other almost too, so hopefully my next books will be better. Have a great week!

    • They are very strange creatures to have. They are very interesting and I like to watch them but they are a lot harder to take care of then I thought, My daughter wants more but I told her not now, maybe in the summer on the boardwalk we can get one or two more but not now, I can’t handle the stress lol

He is a lot better now just complaining that he still has to take inhalers because he gets Asthma when he is sick. But he is for sure back to his old self again.

I hated my slump, I just didn’t feel like reading at all and what a bad time for it to come. I am hoping the weekend after Christmas I can binge read for the weekend because after this week I will need to relax πŸ™‚

  8. Your post cracked me up even though I’m sure it wasn’t funny at the time! The crabs definitely sound… challenging. “legs fell off but apparently that happens” LOL I’m sorry, I couldn’t help it. I’d be pissed off at the things too. Pets…

Madness is right it’s going to be a crazy week, enjoy your Christmas and your time off! Hope it’s filled with lots of great memories. Nice haul, I like the looks of The Marked Girl.

Greg recently posted: Sunday Post #122
    • Well if they didn’t live how normal things would die I think I would be ok with them. I don’t understand how a creature can have all it’s skin fall off and people not assume they are dead.

Thanks Greg! I hope you have a Merry Christmas! I am loving the look and synopsis of The Marked Girl I am hoping it’s good.

  9. Your hermit crab drama always makes me laugh. πŸ™‚ Glad Ryan is feeling better you can now give him my hug that you wouldn’t give him when he was sick…lol. Look at all those yummy reads….lol. I might have only grabbed one off of EW but I got NG ones…lol. πŸ™‚

Have a great week and Merry Christmas!

  10. Fucking hermit crabs! Why do they scare you like that, and make your daughter cry? I’m glad Meanie turned out to only be molting, even if he made you go to the wrong conclusion.
Your new books look great, Michelle, and I’m sure you’ll enjoy them all.
YAY Christmas week! I’m off already, my kids have three more days of school, and on Wednesday evening, we leave for Norway. I won’t be online a lot, because I can’t wait to spend time with my mom and my sister and the rest of the family.
Have a wonderful Christmas, Michelle! *hugs*

    • I guess we named him appropriately. So mean to make us think he was dead πŸ™‚
I hope so the covers are so pretty!

Enjoy your week off. My kids are out on Wednesday and go back on Jan 4th but I have to go back to work on the 28th, I didn’t have enough time saved up this year to take the week off with them. I usually do.

Have a very Merry Christmas! *hugs*
