News at Home

Well, based on today, this is not the week we get a break. 🙁 Dante did not like the time change – we let him go to bed later than normal, thinking it might help him sleep later. Well he woke up around 6am (which would normally be 7am, so even early for him). Knowing that his stomach still wasn’t great, I stuck close to the BRAT diet and made him oatmeal for breakfast. He ate it great, using his spoon and everything (which is a total victory). Shortly thereafter, I could tell his stomach was bothering him – he was doing his squirming, crying thing he does – so I gave him some anti nausea medicine and he did a lot better. I left to get groceries and I also stopped at Didi’s (a discount store here) and found some nice sweaters for work really cheap.

When I got home, I had COYER Psy-Changeling chat and then we tried to put Dante down for a nap. He was clearly tired but wouldn’t sleep. About 2 hours later, hell began. He just was fussing and crying and squirming. Tired, maybe stomach pain? Didn’t want to eat and it was way too early for him to go to bed if we had any hope of him making it all night. We ended up giving him another dose of nausea medicine and he seemed better for a while. He ended up eating one of his Gerber veggie/fruit pouches and playing on his tablet a bit. And then he came over to me fussing, and since it’s happened so much recently I noticed he had on his “I’m going to barf face” and had Kiko throw me a towel. So I managed to catch his vomit this time instead of getting vomited all over. Small wins right? We finally gave him a remedy from Kiko’s sister – chamomile tea with honey and also rubbing olive oil all over his belly. He farted like crazy and within 5 minutes fell asleep. LOL. So he was asleep by like 8:15… a full hour before he normally goes to sleep. I’m praying he won’t wake up too early tomorrow. I’m having a glass of wine and then I’m going to get to bed a little early myself, just in case.

Today was a bit better, with a  little not great thrown in. Dante woke up once, at 3am, but went back to sleep pretty quickly. And then he slept until 7:45 am! Total win. I did my miracle morning and then got Dante ready for school. Kiko took today – Wednesday off to use up vacation days before they expire and he had me schedule him a dentist appointment for today. So I spent the morning do work – both for my job and school work – and also doing some laundry. I took him to the dentist at 1:15 and once they got settled on a treatment plan – which he wanted me there for, so he’d fully understand everything – I left him (it was about 3, I did some blogging while I waited). They said it was going to take until about 4:30, so I had to cancel the gym for tonight. I did some meal prep and more school work. I also have heard back about that position I was considering in another department. The job is posted and it’s a lower level position than I was anticipating, which has me worried about the salary. But there is still potential for it to be a good raise, so I will put in my application tomorrow and see what they offer me. I also need to talk to my boss about it, now that it may be happening – she recently lost a coordinator and our admin’s last day is next Friday, so the timing is not ideal. Thankfully the new manager understands the situation and will be willing to share me with the old department for a transition period. So it’s just a matter of figuring out if the salary meets my needs, considering what I’ll be giving up in terms of flexibility and increased job demand.

Dante was so much better this evening! He ate well, played and was all-around more like our boy! I’m praying that means he’s feeling better finally. He was a little difficult to get to sleep — didn’t fall asleep until after 10pm — but maybe he’ll sleep all night? I need to get to bed, I’m way behind schedule!

Today was okay, but definitely not according to plan. It was the first night in a while that Dante slept all night! But he did wake up a bit early… after going to bed late, which means he was fussy this morning for therapy. We ended up cutting the session short because he wasn’t into it. But we got to school and then I had to go into the office today. About 1 hour after I got there, a surveyor showed up for a complaint inspection. So our entire day changed course and we were busy with the pop-up survey. I canceled the gym (second day in a row) and got out of the office around 4:45 (which is late considering I started my day at home at 6:30). I did manage to tweak my resume and get my application submitted for the new position though. I will talk to my director about the possibility of me leaving tomorrow at our weekly 1:1 meeting.

After work I stopped at the liquor store to get a couple items that I need to make brunch Saturday for Philip’s birthday – dark rum and curaco for the syrup on the orange walnut waffles. My mom used to make them and Phil requested them for his birthday. I had to google the recipe, so I hope I found the right one.

Dante was fussy again this evening – I really think it had nothing to do with being sick though and was all being a two year old. He got over it and we ended up having a pretty nice night playing and watching TV. Kiko is currently putting him to sleep – it’s 9:30. So better than last night, but still too late IMO. Praying he 1- gets to sleep without too much trouble and 2- sleeps all night.

Okay, we’re getting back on track today! Dante slept all night and he did NOT wake up early. Yay!! And he was in a fabulous mood this morning. He was smiles and laughter – there wasn’t even a fight to brush teeth. And at drop off he ran to his teacher and gave her a hug. I was work from home today and I got a lot done – both work, school, and personal tasks, including making a vision board. It’s something I meant to do a while ago, as the one I had made a few years ago was no longer relevant (because everything I wanted to happen, has come to fruition… so maybe they do work?) and I’m super happy with how it turned out. I also had a talk with my director about the possibility that I would take this other position and she was supportive, even though the timing would suck. So now to see what they offer me and if it’s enough to give up some of my flexibility and ease.

I also took Kiko to get his flu shot today and then I FINALLY made it to the gym today! I took a Heated Pilates class. It’s funny – I expected that to be one of my least favorite classes at this gym but it’s turned out to be one of my favorites. After the gym and a quick shower I picked Dante up from daycare and he had a great day. Followed by doing great at dinner, playing and just happy all evening. Kiko just came out from putting him to sleep it’s 9:30 again, but unlike yesterday he’s almost asleep, not just getting started. So we’re slowing moving bedtime back to where it should be. Hopefully we have another great night’s sleep!

Today went well too! Dante slept all night and didn’t wake up early! Are we back to normal finally? *knocks on wood* I had an in office day, which was busy enough. I also got the first communication regarding the job offer today. They asked me what salary I was expecting and for the first time EVER, I decided to go high. I think I’m finally starting to see my value and that I deserve more and don’t need to settle. They already replied that they can’t do that, but they gave me the range they thought the department could swing. So I replied that I could consider the top sum in that range, but that I would like to know more about my ability to work from home some. I don’t think I’ve negotiated myself out of the job, but if I have, I’m okay with that. I have a minimum I’m willing to accept and I would really like to get some flexibility written into my job regarding remote work. Best case, they give me the top sum they can and give me that flexibility for work from home. Maybe they say that can’t guarantee anything in a work situation, but they give me the money. And worst case, they say I want too much and walk away. I’m fine with all 3 possibilities. And it feels good to be standing up for myself.

After work, I met up with Phil and Zach for a little while and then I had my nutritionist appointment. Things are going so much better than they were the last time I met with her and I feel really good about how they will continue to go moving forward – I’m focused and have my head on straight for now. Then I went to the gym, it was a later class than I like to do, because I only have 15 minutes from the time the class ends to pick up Dante, but it was worth it. The spin class was great and I got to Dante with 8 minutes to spare. And he had a good day too! When we got home, he ate dinner well, we played, and he even went down easy for bed – completely asleep by 9:30 this time. Maybe tomorrow, we can hit 9:25 🙂

I feel like I was super unproductive today. Just too much going on in my head. After my miracle morning and getting Dante off to daycare (another good night’s sleep!), I had a call from the hiring manager for the position I’m considering. Long story short – if I accept this job, I should plan to be in the office 4-5 days a week. Bummer. So I need to decide if it’s worth it, as she told me she will be offering to me Monday (she has to have the position posted for 5 days before she can make an offer). So I spent the morning working on schedule options for when if I took the job, along with the goal of doing the coding boot camp January 10 – June 4. And the schedule isn’t pretty. I think it is doable, but I will be working very hard. So that was in and out of my mind all day. I took a noon Power Vinyasa class – basically a yoga class that kicks your butt. When I tell you there was a puddle of sweat on all 4 sides of my mat, I’m not exaggerating. But boy did it feel good.

I feel like that’s really all that I did today – I mean I worked, made a meal plan, etc… but I spent the day super distracted and in my head. Dante went down for bed really rough tonight- mainly because Kiko finally decided he wasn’t going to lie in there with him for 10 – 20 minutes while he fell asleep. That was my opinion from the start, but I let him come to that conclusion on his own. So Dante cried off and on for about 15-20 minutes. But he’s asleep now and I’m betting he starts going to sleep easier if Kiko keeps this up.

I got some new teas today and I’m super excited to try them. I’m branching out to loose leaf tea… I need to buy the right equipment lol, but I’m trying one tonight as a nice warm treat before bed.

Today was a great day! It was my brother Philip’s birthday and we had fun celebrating him. Dante woke up at like 7 (blah, weekend Dante, weekend!) and after breakfast we played for a bit. Around 11:30, I started cooking brunch – Orange Nut Waffles with Orange Syrup, Hash Browns, Eggs, and Bacon with Mimosas. Philip and his partner Zach arrived around noon and we all enjoyed a great brunch, including Dante. He’s definitely a fan of brunch lol! And we just talked and had a nice time playing with Dante. We went for a nice walk and chatted some more. I was talking to them about my conflict of trying to decide if I’ll take this job or not, since I’m expecting the offer on Monday. And they surprised me that they had been discussing it and for my Christmas present they are going to pay for my boot camp! Well, that changes the pressure to take the higher income job. So I’m leaning towards no, so that I can just focus on the boot camp and not having a crazy schedule. Kiko agrees, but we will see what the offer is on Monday before making a firm choice.

It’s 9pm and Dante is in bed — he cried for less than 5 minutes and is asleep! I feel like we are back on track!!!

My big goal for 2021 is to get down to my goal weight. It means losing 70 pounds this year. At this point, my goal is to break even for the year. I haven’t been on the scale since August, trying to avoid the way it sends me spiraling. But I’m pretty sure I’m up about 20 pounds. But the year is not over and I can still undo the damage I’ve done this year!

Here are my health & fitness goals for the month of November and how I’m doing:

  1. Meal plan and eat on plan for all 3 meals & snacks
    • Ate all meals on plan every day (the brunch was in my plan)
  2. Honestly track all my food
    • I missed a few things the Monday – Wednesday, but got refocused Thursday and Friday.
  3. Only eat between 11am – 7pm
    • This has been a harder one, but I did better this week. I stuck to it all but Monday and Wednesday.
  4. No Soda / drink 64 oz of water a day
    • I’ve done great drinking water instead, drinking at least 64oz daily
  5. No eating out
    • Stuck to this one for two weeks straight now!
  6. Exercise 5x each week
    • I only made it to the gym Wednesday – Friday this week.
  7. Complete all 3 hearts on my watch
    • I didn’t get all my hearts Monday or Tuesday.

Added to My Shelf

I’m trying to be more responsible about keeping track of the books I acquire, so I’m going to start sharing them again. If I share them here, surely I’ll remember to add them to Goodreads, right?

How was your week? What are you Reading?

What a wonderful gift and so nice it takes the pressure off the job search! Sounds like a wonderful brunch too. I wish I was closer and I could brunch with you! Catching barf in a towel is such a win. I don’t miss those days. I think the worst was when my son puked in his car seat and it was all over the straps and everything. I think we ended up having to get a new cover and straps because the smell just wouldn’t go away. I hope he has a great week this week. Looking forward to hearing the job news. *HUGS*

  2. Well I expected the time change to be a bit rough. For me it worked out ok, instead of sleeping midnight to 8am, now I sleep 11pm-7am. Since I set my own schedule it works. I’m glad you hung with it all week and things improved with Dante sleeping and feeling better and getting to your gym more later in the week. I really think the flexibility you have is awesome and for me that would be more important than the new job. Is there opportunity for a bit more where you are since 2 people left and they need you? I mean could you do a bit more and get a raise there? If not, I still think the flexibility and continuing your classes makes the most sense. I’ll be interested to hear how it all comes out this week.
