Born in darkness, a young boy steps into the light. Raised in a cellar steeped in solitude, his entrance into English society at the turn of the nineteenth century is anything but painless. From place to place he journeys, seeking companions who share his unusual interests. But always, always a red fog follows, consuming everything in its path…
This book contains a LOT of triggers. Rape, attempted Rape and murder
I saw someone come up to the register at Barnes and Noble and just loved the cover and back page. I read the synopsis and thought, I need to read this book. I judge this book by it’s cover, this was NOT what I was expecting. I am not sure what I was expecting honesty but I actually forced myself to finish this book. I was super uncomfortable and the senseless murders and rape in this book was so bothersome. It was a hard book to read. I am going off script for this review.
Ruwanda Bailey is not a good character, he is not a nice person. He was raised to me a killer by this murderous mother. Once she died he was left on his own. The desire to kill was overwhelming, he would kill even after people tried to help him. It was hard to read. He was noticed by a group of people that want to use his as an assassin. He lacks emotion and has not sympathy for those he kills. He is a character I am assuming you are not suppose to like.
The story is just following Ruwanda through a couple of weeks/maybe months after his moms does. Was the story interesting…yes but I just had such an issue with him.
This is a 3.5…I might have been being nice BUT…while it was an uncomfortable read, I actually want to see what happens next and will most likely grab the next book in the series, however, I know that if it is anything like this book or worse, it might be a two and done type of reading.
I wanted to love this book but the content of this book, was super uncomfortable and I just couldn’t get passed all the senseless murder and the rape parts.
Thanks for stopping by to check out my review.
Have a great day and Happy Reading!
