About the Author
Words have always been a passion of mine. I’ve always loved to read them, write them and learn them in other languages. Last year, I decided to take that passion and turn it into a book. Whenever I’m not sitting behind my computer I’m either enjoying the company of my dear hubby, Alex, and our four four-legged babies, or reading. I’m a firm believer in long hand-written letters, love of any kind, and good stories.

Today I am so excited to be able to chat with Patty Maximini and ask her a couple of fun questions for you all to get to know her a little bit better.
1. So tell me What’s something that amazes you?
The thing that amazes me the most is nature. The colors, the life, the perfect balance it has . . . it’s just breathtaking.
2. When do you find yourself singing?
In the car. Whenever I’m driving alone, I turn into Beyoncé (but only in my head because I can’t carry a tune in a bucket). I sing, dance and probably scare the crap out of other drivers who must think I’m insane.
3. What movie deserves a sequal?
“The Goonies”. Wouldn’t it be awesome if they did a sequel showing all of them as adults?
4. If you could travel in time, were would you go?
I’d go 100 years into the future. Just imagine all the cool stuff they’ll have by then. Also, they’ll probably have managed to find life in other planets, and that would just be awesome!
5. It’s a rainy Sunday afternoon. What movie would you want to see on TV?
“The Notebook” or “The Lucky One” or any other chick flick.
6. If you went to a Psychiatrist, what would he/she say you suffer from?
They’d probably I have some sort weird sleep disorder. I can sleep through literally anything. Last week a pipe broke and flooded my bedroom while I slept. I only woke up when my husband pulled the covers from my body and shook me awake.
7. What was your favorite childhood game?
My sister and I invented this game called “Ariel”, which basically consisted swimming around the pool (or ocean) with our hairs flowing in the water pretending we were mermaids. It was definitely my favorite.
8. Who is the most famous person you ever meet?
I met the soccer player Pelé (Brazilian, considered a soccer legend, remember him?) a few years ago. I was working at this cinema company and he just came in for a meeting, and someone introduced us.
9. What is your favorite kind of cereal?
Honey Nut Cheerios.
10. What is your favorite snack food?
I make this whole wheat – lemon – flax seed crackers that are ridiculously good and my usual (and favorite) snack.
11. How do you like to relax?
On the couch, cuddling with my husband and cat, drinking tea and either watching a movie or reading a book. That’s perfection.
12. What is the scariest scene you remember from a movie as a kid?
I didn’t watch many scary movies as a kid. I remember watching the first Batman movie when I was 4, and the scene of The Joker falling into the acid gave me nightmares for a week.
13. If you could be a member of any TV sitcom family, which would it be?
I don’t know if it counts because they are not a family, but I would like to be part of The Big Bang Theory world.
14. Which animal scares you the most? Why?
I’m an animal lover and an introvert, so humans scare me more than animals. With that said, I wouldn’t want to be trapped anywhere close to Rhinoceros.
15. If you could change your first name, what would you change it to?
I think I would change it to something really fun, like Lux.
16. What is your all time favorite place to go?
The beach. And Starbucks. And Disney World. And my bed.
17. Where is your favorite place to eat? What do you like to order?
My favorite place to eat is this small pizza place about three blocks from my house, called Pizza Planet (like in Toy Story). They have a really cool vibe and a bunch of wacky flavors, like Potato Chips which is my favorite.
Hubs and I love it so much that we went there after our wedding. We were so happy that day we forgot to eat at our own party and as a result, by the time the guests left we were starving, so we went there for a late night snack. I was in my wedding gown and they made us a complimentary heart shaped chocolate pizza.
18. What season do you prefer? Why?
Spring. It has the perfect weather and all the flowers to make the world pretty.
19. You are a superhero. What is your superpower and Who is your Supervillian?
I can’t answer that. It’ll blow my secret identity!
20. Name I book you suggest everyone must read? (Not including yours)
I think everyone should read “Looking for Alaska” by John Green. It’s one of those books that no matter if you’re a teenager or an adult you’ll identify with the characters and learn a lot about life and yourself. Also, I think everyone should read “Easy” by Tammara Webber, because Lucas rocks and I love him!
Book: Exception
Author: Patty Maximini
Release date: November 1st, 2013
459 pages
Synopsis:
When all hope for moving on from a life filled with pain was gone, Emily Watson closed herself off to the world, packed her bags, and moved across the country in search of a new life. What she found was a career she adored and friends whom she loved. It wasn’t a full and complete life, but it was definitely better than what she knew before.
When all hope for being loved and accepted for who he was instead of what he had was gone, Taylor Carter decided that trusting people outside of his family wasn’t really smart and would only lead to disappointment. With his world turned upside down, his life became about his work, and every new relationship was meaningless and superficial. He was safe, and definitely content, but never truly happy.
When all hope for staying awake during a long day was gone, Emily and Taylor found themselves at the same coffee cart. Little did they know then that the worst coffee they’d ever drank would forever change their lives.
When hopeless people are blinded by an endless pain. When contentment and safety feels like the best option, and love seems impossible, they may just find an exception.

Playlist:
The day I began writing Exception, I started a playlist that had only fourteen songs, mostly by Adele and Nickelback. Throughout the eight months it took to write Exception, it grew to over 200 songs that range from Elvis Presley to Kiss. They were all inspiring, but to me, these eighteen are as much part of the book as Taylor and Emily.

Emily looked in his eyes and felt blood rush to her face once again. How could she tell him what had happened without making things weird? Telling him would ruin everything. She offered her most honest smile before speaking. “It’s nothing Tay, really. Just let it go. Please.”
At her words, he let go of her hand and stepped back. For the first time since they’d met, she was keeping something from him. For the first time, something serious enough to take her two best friends out of their beds had happened, yet she refused to tell him what. For the first time, she didn’t trust him enough to be open and honest, and he had no idea why.
The pain he felt was indescribable and it showed in his eyes. He cleared his throat before speaking again. “It is something. Something you chose to share with them and not with me.” He shook his head, slowly. “I thought our friendship was special. I thought I was special, Emily. I thought you and I kept no secrets.” Holding her gaze, he was silent and took a long breath. A small, sad smile tugged at his lips before he spoke again. “Guess I was wrong.”
Tears pooled in Emily’s eyes and she took a step towards him, but for the first time, he didn’t welcome the closeness between them and, lifting his hands, took a step back. She opened her mouth to speak, to try to explain what had happened, or at least to ask him to wait a little until she could tell him, but he shook his head and walked away before she ever had the chance.
She followed him with her eyes until his back passed through the door, and he slammed it closed behind him. Tears ran from her eyes to her cheeks, and she barely felt the set of hands that held her shoulders. For the first time in years she couldn’t care less if someone touched her. Nothing in the world could crush her any further.
When her eyes finally focused she saw her two best friends standing next to her. Zack wiped the tears from her face with the same loving and understanding expression he always had, while Jody muttered curses behind him.
“He hates me.”
