News at Home: COVID Quarantine Week 23
This was a pretty good week. Work was okay. Right after I complained about it, things got better. LOL! Maybe I should have complained earlier (not that I complained to my boss or anything). But I was busy this week and it felt good to be useful. I still hate that I’m not in the classroom, but I know that’s not a good option right now.
Dante turned 11 months this week! I don’t know about y’all, but for me, it’s flown by. People always tell you it will go by quickly and you think you understand. But you don’t, not until you’ve already got almost a year in your rear view mirror. Here’s my instagram post with his 11 month photos:
Yes, it’s been 1 hell of a year with COVID for most of it, but in some ways even that has been a gift. I’ve gotten to see him grow and hit his milestones in a way I would have missed if he’d been at daycare. As much as I look forward to returning to work (someday… it will happen right?), I think it’s going to be hard to send him back to daycare.
Our one adventure this week has been trying to reconfigure the “baby prison” so that Dante has more space to play, I have space to work, outside the “prison” and he’s safe. I’ve opened it up and tied the ends to permanent fixtures so that it’s bigger. After several attempts, I think we finally have a configuration that works. The real challenge was the doggy door. He has decided it’s his personal door and tries to use it, even with the main patio door is open! But we can’t completely block it, or Buffy won’t be able to get out for her potty. Finally figured it out, though. He’s quite mad to not have access anymore. There’s been a lot of frustrated tears as he realizes he can’t get to it. I laugh #evilmom LOL!
Some pictures of the various attempts:
Saturday (yesterday) we went to the park for a bit in the afternoon and it was nice to be out. It annoys me how many people don’t have masks on. I know we’re outdoors and your walking/jogging, but at least have one available for when you’re passing people. We ducked off the path a few times to avoid people without masks. But we pretty quickly found a good secluded spot to hang out with Dante and Buffy <3
And that’s really about it. It’s been a good week with no major news. Yay!

I’ve found my blogging stride *knocks on wood*
I seem to be able to get in about 30 minutes of blogging in the evening when my husband is taking care of Dante after my shower. I’ve been using this time to write 1 post. I also have been getting in about 20 minutes a few times a week to visit posts. So it’s not ideal, but I’m visiting, writing posts, and even replying some. I hope to be able to keep it up.
COYER celebrated 7 years this week and I’m just blown away that it all started 7 years ago. And we’ve become this amazing community about so much more than a reading challenge. But we’re still very much about challenges and we have two you can sign up for right now (like that segway ๐ lol)
I hope you can join us for one or both!

OH MY – he is just SOOOO cute!!! Love it. And the doggy door thing is precious. We had a cat door to the basement b/c that’s where we kept the food and litter – and although my kids never could get through it (smaller than dog door maybe?), they constantly put things (toys, etc.) through the door and down the basement steps the toys would go! Kids! Love it!
Sounds like you’re kind of hitting your groove with Dante and working from home and blogging and… the list goes on, right? ๐ And I can’t believe how big Dante has gotten! I feel you on the mask outdoors thing. When we go for walks we keep one in hand for when we see someone coming toward us. Most of the time they’re maskless so I step off the sidewalk and into the road to avoid them. Why is it such a big deal to just wear the freaking mask? Gah!
It does go by fast! And aww cute pic! Glad work got better. It takes a lot out of you when things are rough. Stress and whatnot… and I’m the same way with masks. I’m like, come ON people!!!
COYER 7 years! Wow you guys… congrats :):)
He is so funny and so very cute! Love his determination with that Dante-size door. LOL
And you blink and they are suddenly a foot taller than you ๐
Wishing you a great reading week
I love the photos. And yes, time goes by so fast. I remember being sad when my son got his first tooth. No more gummy smile. LOL
Hahaha-blocking the doggie door from Dante is too funny! Kids are so weird! Glad things at work got better! That makes everything seem better doesn’t it? Being in the classroom is tough right now. I’m glad you are getting to spend time at home with Dante!
You and Dante – looking good! I’m glad you are having this time with him, even with the circumstances. I wish I could have been at home the whole first year with my girl. You are really hitting your stride and handling it all so beautifully! I love the COYER community.
I can’t believe Dante is nearly a year old! Time really does fly! I LOL’d way too hard at the doggie door pic. Sorry Dante. hehehehe
Oh it cracks me up! Thankfully the patio is safe so he won’t get hurt when he gets through it. But I’d rather he use the open door ๐. It’s funny because the door cover has a warning on it about how it’s for pets not kids and I remember thinking “well duh” when I read it. ๐
