On & Off the Blog:
It has been a super busy week of work and looking for a job. While I am starting to enjoy working at Barnes & Noble the pay is what is really turning me off. It’s not easy work and I don’t feel the balance of work and pay match very well but for now it’s a job and money is money. I still continue to look for a job but just haven’t gotten any hits on my resume. Once the holidays are over, I plan to really focus on cleaning up my resume, portfolio and cover letter. Hoping to get a job before the end of January. Fingers crossed.
I have no idea what I have bought for Christmas, without all the big things the kids used to get it looks like I didn’t even buy them anything. I still need to get a few stocking stuffers, mostly just candy to put in the stocking. I am looking forward to Christmas, I do have to work Christmas Eve but happily only until 1 which leaves me the rest of the day to prep for Christmas and also enjoy the night.
Spent all day yesterday helping my mom bake cookies, today I have some time in the morning but have to leave for work at 2:30 and work until 10:30. Send those positive vibes my way that I get a new job soon! I just want normal hours, a regular schedule and my weekends off.
I was able to do a little blogging this week but it is still a bit slow going but I should have some post up this week plus the return of Bookish Resolutions sign up post.
COYER Sign Up is also live (you can find the link above) We are so excited with how awesome next year is going to be. I have missed blogging so I hope (fingers, eyes, toes, etc. crossed) this will be my blogging come back year.
Read & Currently Reading:
Still reading the Filthy Christmas Novellas with Berls. They are either awesome or not awesome. I have been enjoying them and they also helped me make my goal of 50 books this year for Goodreads. Still debating how many books I want to read for next years goal I want to be super ambitious but also don’t want to get discouraged so I might do 60 instead of 50 but I REALLY want to hit 100. If I start reading more Manga, I might be able to get it that high.

I have been seeing this book Atomic Habits FLY off the shelf at B&N, I happened to be talking to a woman and she insisted I read this book. I was having a rough day and sort of just spilled my guts to her. She said this book will help me and I needed to read it. It was like faith that I meet her and I felt like I needed her at that moment so I grabbed the book and hope to be finished with it this week.

Good luck with the job hunt! I can see where the B&N job would be difficult even with being surrounded with books. The pay is defintiely not enough and anything dealing with the public during the holidays is maddening. I hope you are having a wonderful week!
I’ve often wondered what working at Barnes & Noble would be like, being a book lover and being there so much. 🙂 But yes I imagine it is WAY harder than people assume. I hope your job search goes well and you find something better soon! It’s amazing too how we don’t realize how important weekends off are until we don’t have them! Or at least that was my experience when I had to work weekends at one point after having had them off for years!
Happy holidays Michelle 🙂
I am glad you are enjoying your Christmas novella reads…lol. Hope you enjoy that book the lady recommended you read.
Have a great week and happy reading!

My daughter got a job this year at Dollar Tree and the turn over is so fast there that she made assistant manager in just a few months and is now making $15 an hour and they gave her full time position too. If she stays and gets a manger position she’ll be making even more. You might check that out since they are always looking for people.
I hope you find a great job soon. There are lots of jobs out there but many are not paying a livable wage. Enjoy your holiday decorating, cookies and other events.

Good luck with the job hunt! I worked at a bookstore in college for 1 day. It is not easy, and the pay is sucky, so I understand your struggle.
Working at Barnes and Nobles would be a dream-job for me, but a girl still gotta pay her bills! So I’d totally understand you looking further. I’m hoping you will find something that fits you, makes you happy and pays your bills!
Have a great week 🙂
I love walking the shelves and when I am stocking books I tend to shop at the same time but the pay needs to be at least 7 dollars more an hour even a little more. Just not a good balance between work and pay. If I was retired and wanted something to do this would be perfect.
**sends positive job hunt vibes your way**
I need some too! I feel like there are so many job openings, but no one is actually hiring! It’s so weird.
They are in a rush to hire and I am honestly over qualified for some of the jobs I apply to but I don’t have a bachelors so that is probably the reason I am getting passed over.
Hope your job search continues to go well. It’s rough around the holidays, employers seem to need their positions filled but they aren’t in a rush to fill them during the holiday madness. Sorry to hear the B&N job isn’t working out too well. I think that was always why I didn’t work at a bookstore myself despite feeling like it would be a good fit. I like regular schedules too, weekends and holidays off. Knowing when I’m working and all. So hopefully the in the new all the places you’ve been applying will start calling. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you.
Happy Reading!

Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower 🙂
I do love it and love being around all the books but if the pay was better and hours for consistent I would be fine. I have been working mornings so that is better because I can at least see my kids but I don’t think I could do this for a long time. I miss doing graphics.
