Recapping 2018 and looking ahead to 2019
Feel free to join us!
Out with the OLD: 2018
Y’all this year has been one wild ride and I feel like the last few months I’ve been on a tilt-a-whirl, spinning out of control and just hoping that when it stops I’ll be able to stand upright again.
Some really great things happened for me this year, but despite that, I sank into a major depression this fall. And I kept thinking I could pull myself out. And I kept sinking deeper, instead. Well, this past month I’ve finally started really, truly pulling out. I’m not quite standing upright but I’m getting there.
What happened for me with blogging? Well, I made the decision to fully commit to Because Reading by cancelling my domain for Fantasy is More Fun. That’s right. It’s really, 100% gone. I didn’t even save the posts… and since I also no longer have the hosting – we moved COYER to blogger when we got hacked, I also can’t even pull out those old posts. They are well and truly gone. And I’m okay with that – Because Reading is my home and I’ve never been one that felt the need to hold on to things from my past. I’m the furthest thing from a hoarder — even digitally!
In with the NEW: 2019
A big part of finally getting fully upright is participating in the things I used to really love – like blogging. To be honest, life has been so overwhelming, I haven’t missed it that much until recently. Because engaging in a community – any community – has not appealed to me. But I do think I’m ready to start reconnecting.
But let’s be realistic. I can’t go from 0 to 100 in a few days or even weeks. And I’m not going to pretend to be the same blogger I was when I disappeared this year. I’m not. But I do truly love this community and want to be a part of it again, just in a different way. Health – physical and emotional – has become and needs to remain a priority for me. So look for a bit more of those kinds of post from me.
Reading has not slipped for me at all though – yay! – just the review writing is kind of a problem for me right now. I haven’t fully figured out how I’ll be sharing all I’m reading, but I do want to share. So look for an evolution of how Berls blogs this year, but hopefully you’ll really see me here and visiting y’all again.

Have a great day and Happy Reading!
<3 Keep taking care of yourself! Definitely take brakes when you feel that they are needed. We'll all still be here when you return 🙂
Thank you so much ❤️ I appreciate it and I hope I’m officially back this time!!
I’m sorry you’ve had to deal with depression this fall, Berls! *sending hugs*
I’ve been extremely busy this fall, and once Uni starts again in February, I won’t have much time for fun stuff once more. I keep telling myself I’m in the last stretch of my education, though, and that just has to be able to be enough.
Love you and miss you <3
Love you and miss you too Lexxie ❤️❤️ I can’t imagine teaching and being in school… Even though it may be on the horizon for me soon too. You’re so strong, though, I have no doubt you’ll make it through!! Sending you tons of hugs. 🤗🤗Oh and I get to see your wife tomorrow 😉! Super excited!
That sounds like a great outlook and a solid plan for 2019, Berls. 🙂
Thank you!! ♥️
I also missed the community so much! I am glad we will make a fresh start next year! YAY! 🙂 I also missed you on the blog! We will get back to our normal, just need to take it one step at a time! 🙂 HUGS!!!
Thanks for letting me hang around even after doing NOTHING for months ❤️❤️ well find our new normal soon!
Berls – so good to see you back in the blogging world. You are an amazing woman and so inspirational, and I truly appreciate your posts. But I understand the need to cut back or take a break. I’m glad you plan to be back again in 2019.
I haven’t set too many goals – I will do the Audiobook Challenge again, and hope to listen to 60+ books. I will do a GoodReads challenge, but cutting down my goal to 110 books/audiobooks (I haven’t met my goal the last two years). I also plan to take on less new-to-me books so I can read some of my TBR pile in 2019.
Thanks Jen, that’s so kind of you to say ❤️
I think setting small, more realistic goals is definitely the way to go. And I love the plan to take on less new books so you can focus on the ones you already have. That’s been my reading philosophy this past year and I’ve loved reading that way 😊
